    Racism in general is easy to understand, it's simply fear of anything that's different. It's the same idea that we get a lot of "isms" from, like nationalism, sexism, etc. The concept of "I, and anyone like me, are good and anyone different is bad" is far too common in humanity.
    There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

    I suffer from severe Midgetism. Those little bastards are only half the people that normal people are.

    So where does it come from?
    I believe racism comes from an unfortunate natural instinct humans have to not trust anyone or anything different than ourselves. At least until we are put at ease to have trust.

    Sounds barbaric but I believe it is simply an instinct in which evelution needs a little more time to change.

    I have a suspicion that racism exists as a vestigial instinct.

    Think of early nomadic human tribes. When encountering a different tribe, an instinct to avoid strangers that look different, might well be a way to avoid the spreading of contagion. (Note that we tend to have an aversion to the visibly sick as well.)

    In a time when there was little racial diversity, the mechanism would probably work well. The strangers probably would look different if they were substantially more or less healthy, so an aversion instinct would discourage contact.

    Now, there are many more factors that provide for diverse appearances, and such an instinct might well manifest as irrational aversion to "the Other."

    Racism comes from people who were born without balls.

    No, Cephus, what you describe is called Xenophobia.

    Racism is a product of ignorance.

    Race one of the easiest Master Status to identify with, easier then sex, even.

    Contrary to moral relativist premises, every healthy human has the same basic needs, and one of those needs is to be a part of a community. For those who are unable to acquire-and-keep normal familial relations, or who have had these normal relations replaced with, say, gang relations since their childhood, siding up with your own race is the easiest way into a social group.

    Race is the easiest way to belong due to the various status symbols race commonly provides:
    • Skin, hair and eye color;
    • Body types;
    • Mannerisms such as style of speech and posture;
    • Common ancestry.

    An indivigual looking to belong to a group is most often atracted to the group where he already shares many things in common.

    This is not an exhaustive list and there are exceptions, but this give a general idea of the appeal of race.
