Slightly, my credit card company turned into even bigger dicks. But hey, they're Citigroup. Before their bailout they were almost caput.

No, but worried about job security.

I work for an big company and they have been in the news for layoffs lately. They've layed off thousands of people in the last couple months. One good thing I feel bad about, is one office that closed we got all their business. So while that happened there is still no definite that we will not be affected, so it's kinda scary. Other than that I am pretty secure with my finances and I really haven't been affected other than my grocery bill going up.

My interest rate was raised to 19.9%. I have had the card for 8 years, and never been late on a payment! I don't put much on the card...just a few bills that I have on autopay, and then I pay the card off. Anyway, I just switched to using my debit, and I am done with them. That really pissed me off.

Re: Have you personally been affected by the financial downturn?

It hasn't affected me personally YET and will probably not, but I fear that it can, the reason for this is that the economies are imploding, my country is pretty well of, but still there is an economic downturn which in the end could endanger my job situation, making me more worried personally, but mostly because I worry about the situation of others and what consequences this could have not only on the society around me and the effects of that spilling over to me personally.

As a former solider all this has encouraged me to acquire more military equipment and weapons and the consideration into buying a gun for future security if some kind of ill scenarios happens. I'm not really paranoid, but it feels better to be on the safe side and prepared for any situation.

Is this strange or do any of you actually do the same thing?

Lost my job in September. That wasn't a consequence of the downturn... but I don't start my new job until January. Makes the longest I've been out of work, with the exception of when I was on Social Security, since I was in high school.

Not yet but January is house cleaning time in the company.

Re: Have you personally been affected by the financial downturn?

I cannot really say how secure my job is. I don't know.
I believe it's secure in that my company is unlikely to go bottom up.
I believe my position is tenuous, because in the current job market, degreed people would now be willing to accept it, possibly at an even lower wage than I receive, and I am not degreed.
But maybe that's just paranoia. I really am pretty good at what I do.

If you don't mind me asking, What do you do?

In reply to topic, it hasn't affected me yet since I'm a student, but I feel like it will be harder to enter the job market. Hopefully Obama will turn around the economy and it will be easier next spring.

Only slightly, and in a mix of ways. Of course, gas prices are a given, in all their fluctuations. Incidentally, I got a fantastic deal and interest rate on my recently purchased home. I feel secure in my jobs. I work for a company of several hundred people, and if I were laid off tomorrow I'd be the first one. I'd not their greatest employee, but I think I would be far from the first to go.
