In a few weeks, either McCain or Obama will be elected President Of The United States Of America. Let's face it, about half of the people here are going to fundamentally disagree with whoever wins.

This is what I ask of the board. Whether Obama wins, or McCain wins, give the man a fair chance. Both of them love this country and want to make it a better place, they just disagree on how. Give him a chance to try to help this country, give him a chance to try to repair the economy, give his policies a chance to work. Don't start attacking him immediately off the bat. Don't assume his policies are going to fail, or that he doesn't have your best interest at heart. Both candidates deserve at least that.

Now I know many on the right are itching to get back at the left for their treatment of George Bush. You are probably right, Bush was treated roughly, right off the bat. But treating Obama the same way won't make it any better, all it will do is mire the country in bickering and squabbling, when we have very real problems that need to be solved. As for the left, do I even have to remind you about the Clinton years? Do I even have to remind you how Clinton was demonized? I'm sure those of you that were paying attention back then didn't like it one bit. It was pretty unfair. So why do you want to do that to someone else?

I guess what I'm trying to say here is, give the next president a chance, no matter who he is. Who is with me?

I turned on Bush when it was clear that he was a liberal in conservative clothing. If Obama gets elected and can effectively reverse the liberal spending and expansion of government we've seen from most of the congressional Democrats and Republicans over the past 8 years, he'll have my (probably tentative ) support.

But whoever becomes President is our President and while we may criticize his actions, I still won't appreciate foreigners spouting off about him. If right wing Europeans criticize a President Obama, call him a retard, etc. like the left wing morons did to President Bush - I'll still have the overwhelming desire to shove my foot up their ass.

So basically no, you will only give whoever is President your support if they follow policies that you support.

Just trying to clear your position for myself.

I have no problem with Americans giving their opinion of European, African or Asian leaders or events - why should you mind if we have an opinion on your events - especially when your leader is set up as "leader of the free world".

Either the US goes into isolation and lets the world run or fall apart or you get involved and have a say. When your country chooses to have a say in foreign events you affect us and we have a right to voice our opinion.

I view the president as being the representative of the people and the standard bearer of the republic. I will always respect the office of the president, no matter who holds the office because I respect my fellow citizens.

What bothered me about Bush's treatment was that it was patently disrespectful to the citizens who voted for him. I will not do the same thing to the Obamaheads if they get their boy elected.

But since he isn't president yet, I probably ought to get my disdain and scorn for him out of my system now.
