This financial crisis is the result of actions taken by the Federal Reserve Bank.
Electing a congress that would get rid of the Fed would be a wise move. But I don't see that happening any time soon.

However, the biggest cause has been deregulation and that was fueled IMO by 'trickle down' type economics - the hallmark of neo-cons. I have no quarrel with true conservatives, but I would put every single neo-con (Dem & Rep) out of office if it were in my power.

Every time the Fed dropped the interest rate it drove me crazy. It didn't work the first six times, for heaven's sake give it up. You are right, they have caused serious damage. That said, the chairman of the Fed is chosen by the president, so is it Bush's fault? I think McCain should just stop trying, cos Republicans are going to feel the backlash from people blaming Bush - hence the poll question. Am I wrong? |

The disasters started around 2001, beginning with the Govt trading a surplus which should have been used to pay down the trillions in debt we had then for deficits to fund tax cuts.

So do you think you will just vote along party lines for both President and congress, or will you investigate whether your local politician is a neo-con and vote them out of office? |

So do you think it is all the fault of Republicans? Or do you think the last two years have compounded the problem? |

That allowed the Fed to melt down all the real money and replace it with slugs and IOU's (federal reserve notes).
If you paid in silver, a gallon of gas today would cost almost the same as it did in 1964. The problem is, dollars have very little value now. And will have even less value after the Fed prints another 900 billion to cover the Wall street handout package congress just passed. |

The fact that this Administration and the Republican Congress ran up $4 trillion more in debt over the past 7 years did not directly cause the mortgage mess we are in, but it has exacerbated the cost of the the Govt can do. If the Govt was $4-5 trillion less in debt right now it would have more flexibility in dealing with this mess.
The jury is still out on what allowed the mortgage mess to get as severe as it did, but there seems to be plenty of blame on both sides of that. |
