Neither side really "Won", IE done something major that I think really set them apart from the other side for those other than their strong base, and neither side really "Lost", IE done something major that would lose them a key part of their base or push those undecideds far away.
Because of that, I would give overall a slight "win" to the Democrats. The reason for this is because since they are on top they did not need to truly "Win", they just needed ot not lose. The republicans, being down, NEEDED to WIN, not just "not lose".

However, it was not a knockout. So that helps Palin. Expectations were low, and she definitely exceeded them. Definitely not a game changer though. Obama is ahead in the polls now, and he will be ahead in the polls tomorrow.

Biden misrepresented several things...
McCain did not vote for the tax increase on those making 46k and above.
he did vote for a war resolution.
he did come out against clean coal.
obama did say he would sit down personally with amhonajihad.
McCain did support the Bosnia resolution.
And that was what I noticed just as I watched it.

Perhaps the poll can be amended to include him.

Throwing out all the other stuff before this debate(interviews, clean coal gaffes etc..), and judging it soley on its merits I give it to Biden like I gave McCain the last one. More experienced, better informed. Biden didn't have a slow start like McCain did, so I'd say Biden won this one by more than McCain beat Obama.
However, I thought Palin was successful in what she needed to do. She wasn't supposed to win it in the first place. I'd have been shocked if she had. She just didn't need to lose the election for McCain. He might yet lose, but it won't be because of this debate.

Current Mood: | Biden won the debate tonight. Oh, hands down - Biden.
People say Palin did well, but only because Palin lowered the bar so far, that all she had to do was not have another Couric interview. Then again, it was moderated well enough and set up well enough to keep that from happening. Who knows what would have happened if she was given more freeform? |

I was extremely impressed with Palin. She held her own at the beginning but Biden wrecked her on foreign policy, his area of expertise. I actually found this debate to be more entertaining than the Presidential one
