| Re: Have you ever declared bankruptcy? Yes I did. About 7 years ago after a break up with a guy left me in high debt and without the income to pay for it. I really had little choice but to declare bankruptcy. I worked two jobs to keep my truck (which I didn't put on the bankruptcy) and pay off some of the debt due to a voluntary arrangement I made with one of my creditors.
The actual bankruptcy process was pretty painless as it was obvious my debt exceeded my income by an astronomical amount. But, the fact that it's on my record has been a thorn in my side for the last 7 years. I was unable to rent apartments with anyone but private renters, no loans for awhile, very low credit card limits, and it prevented me from getting my security clearance for years. Hell, even after 7 years I still had to have a co-leasor on my current apartment.
My parents have also declared bankruptcy.
