Would You Elect the World's Smartest Person Over McCain and Obama?

Marilyn Vos Savant is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records for 'Highest IQ'. She writes for Parade magazine (appeals to the common man), her fiance is a seemingly decent guy (Robert Jarvik, inventor of the artificial heart) and she seems very politically unbiased based on her writings.

If she were to run as an Independent, would you vote for her as the most convincing turnaround (in terms of brainpower) the US could make from Bush?

No I would not vote for her.I do not know what her stands are on certain issues or even how she would go about fixing certain problems. She could be a pinko commie socialist for all I know. She could be one of those whack jobs who believes in the man made global warming theory or she could some nut who thinks its okay to euthanize the elderly people, babies in the womb and the cripple. A high I.Q. doesn't free someone from their own political bias.

I may very well depending on her politics. There is of course no certainty that she would be a decent or exceptional or even minimally capable politician simply because of a high IQ score. It would all come down to her positions.
That said, intelligence is a good quality. And electing someone exceptionally bright would have its appeal in the wake of 8 years of someone exceptionally dull. But of course anti-intellectualism would make her unelectable in the USof A. Obama's pushing the limit of our tolerance as it is.

The extremely intelligent do tend to lean overwhelmingly to the left.

I think true intelligence has been lacking in our government for the last 25 years.
Nixon was brilliant, unfortunately he was also rather crooked and believed himself above the law.
Washington, Jefferson, Adams all were of the circle of intelligentsia elitists.

Of all that have run for the highest office in the land, Obama is truly one of the most intelligent I've ever seen in quite some time - one of the many reasons I'm supporting him for president.

Not after I saw she published this book

I'm not suprised. Spelling and Grammar Nazis usually have an elite attitude about them, no matter what their education level.

Plus, I see that "von Savant" is not her given last name. Did she pick that all by herself? Or is it like some kind of title that intelligent elites have?

Depends. Does she know anything about politics?

Re: Would You Elect the World's Smartest Person Over McCain and Obama?

Intelligence and a thirst for knowledge are definitely virtues that have been sorely lacking in the presidency for the past 8 years, and they are qualities that I always look for in a presidency.

However, mere intelligence is not enough. After all, a president might know all the answers but that does not mean the congress will, and it definitely does not mean that the American people will. What is best and what is politically possible are seldom the same.

Because, like BO, they are elitist assholes and look down their nose at the common people. They think the common person is too stupid to know what is best for themself and the government should make all decisions for them.

Quite frankly, they seem to be right. If McCain and BO are the best the US citizens can come up with, they deserve whatever they get. Why not have a panel of the smart people just select those to run the county. Maybe the smart people could select a dozen or so candidates for president and a monkey throwing a dart could make the final decision.

Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar, Georgetown undergrad and Yale Law school. And without having a well placed daddy to get him in. That's pretty close in my book. He may have done some stupid things, but he's a pretty smart dude.
