You can't have a society totally free of violence no matter how authoritarian or controlling it might be so that's an impossible goal. However, we should have a society somewhere in the middle, where people are reasonably free, but also have a recognized responsibility to the society and to each other, plus severe penalties to anyone who resorts to violence. | |

No such thing as a society free from violence. It's just a matter of who inflicts violence upon whom-- and whether or not there are consequences.
On the other hand, there is also no such thing as a "free society". Every society is bound by hierarchy; every society suffers under its various tyrannies.
I chose "a free society" mainly because I think it is more important for people to realize that violence is inevitable than for them to realize that freedom is impossible.
