What about the children? Rappers rap about the children.

Re: Johnny cash

about how it's unreasonable that they should have to pay those monthly checks for them

and how it's very sad when they die in the hail of gunfire they inspired

Now now. The ghetto was violent before rap music. Anybody stupid enough to claim otherwise doesn't remember black neighborhoods in America pre-1978.

Re: Johnny cash

I don't think it's necessarily causal, at least in the beginning, but I do think it's related.

I think that "black" music is created primarily to target a white audience who only wants to consume a very disturbing and distorted view of black culture- i.e. jacuzzis and uzis- and that this music has for nearly two decades abandoned any legitimate roots in the black community.

I don't give a **** about Jay-Z and his bitch ass Brooklyn. I've been there.

His music is for the kids on Long Island.

I strongly disagree. Anybody who's looked at the history of American ghettos BEFORE rap music will tell you the only thing that's 'truly' changed is the clothing and music. The rest has remained the same. Thugs, violence and drugs. The reasons for why they're there today has changed a bit but 'rap music' itself has had little to do with it. All rap music did was make the knowledge available for shipping to every country on the planet. You didn't have to go to Crenshaw to know about a Crips and Bloods anymore because West Coast music made the knowledge available to everyone. You didn't know have to go to NYC to hear about the crack epidemic because Public Enemy made the knowledge available to everyone. Rap music didn't create violence. Violence created rap music.

I agree that rap music primarily targets a white audience but it depends on which rapper we're talking about. P.Diddy? Yes. Nas? No. Snoop Dogg(today)? Yes. Lil'Wayne? Mostly No. All you have to do is go to a club and listen to which rappers they play and which songs they play. Mix-tape music rarely gets played. Where most of the stuff you hear is from their newest mainstream albums. It's all about where you are.

Re: Johnny cash

All top 40 rap is a distortion sold to white people. It doesn't matter who.

Any rapper that raps about materialistic bull****, women, or "street cred" is nothing but a minstrel show clown for white bourgeoisie.

That's what's really pathetic, white people aren't impressed with how many pairs of expensive sneakers you own. We're impressed by owning Nike.

I have a subscription to Napster. When I get some time this weekend, I'll download and listen to some of his music and let you know what I think.

And I know of Johnny Cash, I'm just not familiar with his music.
