Should those with duel-citizenship be barred from high ranking government positions?

Should those with duel/multi-citizenship be barred from high ranking government positions?

I say those with duel/multi-citizenship should be banned from high ranking government positions and certain other positions because history has shown us that allies can become enemies. How loyal can someone be if they can't make up their mind which country they want to actually be a citizen of the most.

To minimise bureaucratic error, only merit should matter.

DUAL citizenship.....duel is another word entirely...
and yes, they should have loyalty to one country and one country only if they want to serve in public office...

No. If you don't like their citizenship status, then don't vote for them and/or don't vote for candidates who will appoint them.

That should be for the voters to decide on a case-by-case basis, not a blanket law that applies to EVERYONE with dual citizenship.

Re: Should those with duel-citizenship be barred from high ranking government positio

Allowing people with dual citizenship to run offices has worked extremely well for Hong Kong for decades.

Just because someone has dual citizenship doesn't make them a sleeper agent. It's bad enough that getting intelligent, hardworking and competent people into government is difficult. Barring those with dual citizenship reduces the total pool even more.

That said, if their other citizenship was from, oh Iran, that would be a problem.

Like Canada? You're silly. You do realize that there are Canadians running posts at Norad yes?

Care to list out how many Americans have dual citizenship with Iraq or Saudi Arabia?

Well if the politician is in office, then it means that the people trusted the politician enough to look out for THEIR interests and not the interests of another nation. Which is perfectly fine.

Well surely you don't think EVERY Iraqi-American is sympathetic to Saddam Hussein? Why not let the voters decide on a case-by-case basis if the person's nationality is a problem?

That seems to work well. Given your obvious raging, out of control xenophobia, you should be running around like the sky is falling. We have CANADIANS running parts of NORAD.

OH GOD! WHAT HAS THIS WORLD COME TO?
