Lean: Libertarian | Free State Project How many of you are familiar with the Free State Project? Free State Project Home [ Free State Project - Liberty in Our Lifetime ]
This concept was begun by a man named Jason Sorens to begin a place for libertarians to live with "liberty in our lifetime."
After two years of polling, New Hampshire was chosen to be the Free State. Although it has very low taxes (except for property taxes) and a great deal of freedom, it is still short of a truly free ideal. So people will have to work to achieve that goal.
A number of freedom-minded people have moved there. Jason is hoping that 20,000 will be there within a few more years--enough to initiate movements to downsize government, taxes and regulations..
What do you think of the Free State Project? Do you like the idea? Would you like to live in a free state? Why or why not?

Current Mood: | Re: Free State Project First of all, "I have no intention of going, I hate freedom"? If there was ever a strawman fallacy, this would be it. Many people love freedom as much as you do, they just see the libertarian ideology as being untenable for some reason or other. That doesn't make them totalitarians, though. This isn't either/or. You're never going to get anywhere either in converting people or intelligently discussing your ideas if you start off with the assumption "people who don't agree with me hate freedom".
As far as what I think of the FSP myself, I'm torn. On the one hand, I think third parties need more say in America and the FSP is one way to do it. On the other hand, it seems tantamount to invasion to me. I'd hate it if a bunch of people, especially people whose governance philosophy I disagreed with, moved en masse into my state and started telling me how to run the place.

It ensures economic stability considerations are ignored and therefore increases the likelihood of socialism.
God bless the little fellows!

But they may of just chosen the wrong state because the Democrats pretty much rule the state and they just bonded the state deficit. And they will keep spending a lot of money and will end up having to raise taxes a lot. But I have no problem with it.

Any decent history book should tell you that. There is nothing extreme about wanting to be independent and self-sufficient. Quote:

| I would welcome an "invasion" by people who sincerely believed in liberty and wanted to preserve our American values.
On the other hand, there really is a serious invasion of a similar type that is determined to destroy America, and believe it or not, I have not yet seen anything on this web site that has even mentioned it. Have you ever heard of La Raza, La Reconquista, and the creation of the nation of Aztlan? Google those words and get ready for some serious nail biting.
In this case, it's not 20,000 freedom-loving Americans; it's 20 to perhaps 50 MILLION Hispanics (mostly Mexicans) who are determined to take "back" the entire southwest United States and create another poverty-ridden Mexico. With their exponentially exploding population, they will out vote us "gringos" and create their own state and local governments. California could fall in as little as 20 years. The entire US could be mostly Mexican in as little as 60 or 70 years.
