Are you afraid of black people and do you make racial "utterances"?

This poll is for caucasions please.

I am trying to get a sense of how "typical" it is for us white people to fear and make racial "utterances" about african Americans.

(yes this has to do with obama's "Typical white person" comment.

Please vote and explain.

thanks

Gee, I wonder what brought this poll about?

For the record, no, I am not afraid of blck people, and while I make racial comments(ie, black people are voting for obama in huge numbers), I do not make racist comments.

I also am not a typicial white person as Obama defined them. I think I am just weird or something.

In the uk i was brought up in a an area which was both predominantly white and a pretty violent area.As ive got older ive moved to areas with more blacks asians etc the criminal elements are the same people they tend to be poor people from single parent families and failing local schools.

Besides this i dont think people are scared of black people i think the haves are afraid of the have nots

I call my sister a (n-word) all the time. Sometimes, if I'm feeling especially loving, I'll also call her a chink or an injun. (she's half chinese, part black and part indian).

In all seriousness, i live in the inner city, and if I see a group of young black men dressed ghetto walking towards me, you're damn right I'm scared, or at least worried. You'd have to be crazy not to be.

Do you actually care this much about Obama's comments? Because it seems almost every day you have a new thread about it. Are we going to have to put up with this until November? 2012 even? Do you actually think Obama is going to discriminate against white people in any way once in office?

I fail to see why there needed to be yet another new poll about this. I think it's fairly well understood by now that you don't like Obama and think he's a racist regardless of the context in which he made the statements. Perhaps it's time to move on and get over it.

I am wary around people who look suspicious. Their eye movement, body language, context of their mannerisms and actions given the time and place and dress, physical grooming and mode of transportation and etc.

Everything that may contribute to telling a story about the person or persons has to be noticed immediately and assessed in order to tell the story. And the bottom line is if someone reaches inside their jacket or pocket from outside your 6 foot personal space you should be ready to act. If you suddenly hear or see a car pull up beside you, be ready to act.

I've seen BG's taken by surprise in the most unlikely places and manners.

A person's color tells so little of the story as to be almost meaningless without other information.

To answer your question, "no." But by the same token, I don't assume all Black people are 'mellow.'

EDIT: I also don't take his 'typical' white person comment to necessarily mean typical as to todays healthy, well adjusted, middle aged person. He was referring to older white people of his Gramma's age and their sensibility.

If you are going to obsess about his unsuitability for office you could find more fertile fields to plow elsewhere, methinks. ;)

Fear...no.

But depending on the situation I am somewhat more wary, due to past experience.

Question about this comment: Is it the fact they are black, or a pack of men dressed ghetto and acting a certain way? That is, would a group of white men dressed and acting the same generate the same response? For me, a group of men acting "ganglike" is scarey, no matter the race of the men in question, so I don't think of it as being a racial fear, even if it is most likely that the group of men is most likely black, if that makes sense.

It is because they are ghetto. If I saw a group of black men wearing suits and ties and carrying briefcases, I do admit that I wouldn't be nearly as worried. Though i do still admit, a small part of me would still be wary of them. It's just because 98% of the black people I see are ghetto. Now don't get me wrong, one of my best friends is black, and I convinced my mom when I was younger to adopt my best friend who was part black. It's just what you're used to seeing every day. Make sense?

she's half chinese, part black

We need to have a draft!

Goodbye fried rice, hello fried chicken.

No. The worse anyone can do to you is kill you.
Living most my adult life in the ghetto of longbeach.
Walking to the store to buy a 40oz was fun sometimes.
Like seeing a deal go down behind a asian food mart and all the deal people just stare you down. Ignored um and kept walkin.

I remember one time in south central at a party being told by a 230 pound brother fresh out of the pen "Whatcha doin here white boy!? AINT ya scared? This aint beverly hills." at a stripper party (and i was the only white guy there) I can assure you NO.

btw I replied, "I was invited.... And I live in longbeach."

Then he got a confused look on his face and said, "Oh."

Then he threw a dollar on the strippers butt and said. "Thats you white boy!"

It was only a dollar but I was very grateful for it.

I also grew up 20 miles from the southern border of Califonia to Mexico where I was assulted quite a few times for being the only white poor guy it seemed. But that doesn't make me scared of Mexicans either. Or hold any cross feelings to a race. Im also not scared of white people. Or even democrats.
But people with mullets.... Wow. They scare me.

I'm scared of some Asians (actually, only Jackie Chan and Jet Li).

I make Asian jokes.

Etc, etc, etc.

You should stop obsessing rev.

I am scared of reverends

I am scared of reverends

Reverend is an adjective not a title.

The term the Reverend is used as an honorary prefix to the names of many Christian clergy and ministers. The prefix is correctly called a style rather than a title or form of address. It is sometimes also used by leaders in non-Christian religions such as Buddhism.

[edit] Usage

In traditional English usage it is considered incorrect to drop the word "the" before "Reverend". When used within a sentence "the" begins with a lower-case letter. The common abbreviations for "the Reverend" are "the Rev", "the Revd" and "the Rev'd".

One time I was in the surgery waiting room at UPMC waiting to hear from the doctor. My brother and I had been at the hospital for about 7 hours, so we were pretty tired. Waiting rooms suck, but they are usually pretty quiet.

All of a sudden about 12 guys and 5 girls walked in. All of them were wearing black and red baggy clothes and bandannas. Apparently one of their friends was killed and another critically wounded in a drive-by. A few of them were pretty frantic & irate. One of them looked at me, then looked at his friend, then looked back at me, then looked back at his friend and said: S'up?

I wasn't staring either. I grew up in a moderately large city, and knew that you just don't stare.

Although nothing ever happened, I have to admit that at that time, I was pretty afraid of those people. I thought for sure that I was going to get mugged, or worse.

Then I thought about high healthcare costs.

The End.

Am I scared a ghetto thug, illiterate ignorant hip hop culture can't speak anywhere close to proper English black man will steal my car? Yes.

Am I scared Tiger Woods, or my doctor, who us black, will steal my car? No.

I don't see what skin color has to do with anything. I fear idiots who are raised in a inner city culture will commit crimes against me. They just happen to be mostly black.

And yes, I make racist comments all the time. Usually, but not always, in jest. I'm not afraid to admit that.
