Is McCain willing to sacrifice his self professed 'straight talk' for whatever preacher can get him the most votes? This is a question I have pondered ever since he switched his position from opposer of Fundamentalist Christianity's involvement in the government to 'long time Baptist who is an active member of the church'. Obviously this change of heart is not only EXTREMELY opportunistic but it also makes me wonder about the kind of ambition somebody would have to have to associate with radical pastors.

So here we first have McCain SEEKING the endorsement of John Hagee, Anti-Catholic Bigot.

Hagee, in 'NYT' This Sunday, Says McCain Sought His Endorsement

NEW YORK In an interview that will appear in this Sunday's New York Times Magazine, controversial televangelist Rev. John Hagee declares, "It's true that [John] McCain's campaign sought my endorsement."

McCain has attempted to distance himself from some of Hagee's views, much as Barack Obama is doing in relation to Rev. Jeremiah Wright. But unlike McCain, Obama has not stood on stage with Wright and accepted his accolades this year.

Now from here we establish McCain sought Hagee's endorsement even going as far as saying “all I can tell you is that I am very proud to have Pastor John Hagee’s support.'’

Then we have McCain's spiritual guide, televangelist Rod Parsley.

McCain's Spiritual Guide: Destroy Islam

Senator John McCain hailed as a spiritual adviser an Ohio megachurch pastor who has called upon Christians to wage a "war" against the "false religion" of Islam with the aim of destroying it.

On February 26, McCain appeared at a campaign rally in Cincinnati with the Reverend Rod Parsley of the World Harvest Church of Columbus, a supersize Pentecostal institution that features a 5,200-seat sanctuary, a television studio (where Parsley tapes a weekly show), and a 122,000-square-foot Ministry Activity Center. That day, a week before the Ohio primary, Parsley praised the Republican presidential front-runner as a "strong, true, consistent conservative." The endorsement was important for McCain, who at the time was trying to put an end to the lingering challenge from former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, a favorite among Christian evangelicals. A politically influential figure in Ohio, Parsley could also play a key role in McCain's effort to win this bellwether state in the general election. McCain, with Parsley by his side at the Cincinnati rally, called the evangelical minister a "spiritual guide."

This all goes back to my original question. Obviously McCain supporters are touchy about saying that McCain and his spiritual guide, and anticatholic pastor might share any kind of religious ideology. So I must wonder. Is he doing this to win votes only? If that is the case then obviously the man is willing to sacrifice his straight talk for votes. Or is there more behind this association with Fundi pastors?

What is certain is the double-standard applied by conservatives/republicans to your question. There is no uproar over McCain's purposeful association with these religious surrogates and when these associations are brought forward for open dialog THAT is when the application of double-standard begins.

Concerning Obama and Wright: "Obama's racist minister..." "20 years in the pews..." "Obama supports racist minister's comments..."

Concerning McCain and Parsley/Hagee: *sounds of crickets*
