Yes? No?

McCain's Spiritual Guide: Destroy Islam

On February 26, McCain appeared at a campaign rally in Cincinnati with the Reverend Rod Parsley of the World Harvest Church of Columbus, a supersize Pentecostal institution that features a 5,200-seat sanctuary, a television studio (where Parsley tapes a weekly show), and a 122,000-square-foot Ministry Activity Center. That day, a week before the Ohio primary, Parsley praised the Republican presidential front-runner as a "strong, true, consistent conservative." The endorsement was important for McCain, who at the time was trying to put an end to the lingering challenge from former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, a favorite among Christian evangelicals. A politically influential figure in Ohio, Parsley could also play a key role in McCain's effort to win this bellwether state in the general election. McCain, with Parsley by his side at the Cincinnati rally, called the evangelical minister a "spiritual guide."

Hagee, in 'NYT' This Sunday, Says McCain Sought His Endorsement

NEW YORK In an interview that will appear in this Sunday's New York Times Magazine, controversial televangelist Rev. John Hagee declares, "It's true that [John] McCain's campaign sought my endorsement."

McCain has attempted to distance himself from some of Hagee's views, much as Barack Obama is doing in relation to Rev. Jeremiah Wright. But unlike McCain, Obama has not stood on stage with Wright and accepted his accolades this year.

Interviewed by Deborah Solomon, Hagee refused to discuss his statement that Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for a gay rights parade in New Orleans, calling it "so far off-base." He claims, "Our church is not hard against the gay people. Our church teaches what the bible teaches, that it is not a righteous lifestyle. But of course we must love even sinners."

It seems to me like with all the McCain supporters calling Obama a bad judge of character because he affiliates(or affiliated?) with Wright their own candidate isn't doing much better in that issue.

Heh, it would certainly be something I would use to judge McCain on. Couse, since I don't like McCain to begin with, it would not have much effect.

what do you mean, "if"?

"But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me." Luke 19:27

Ummm, not even close. This isn't McCain's spiritual advisor. Did McCain sit in either man's church for 20 years, giving money and lending stature to their messages?

Did Mccain say "A spiritual guide" or "MY spiritual guide"? There's a huge difference.

John McCain isn't worth voting for.

This would have 0 bearing on my decision.

I'm interested to see the RINOs up for election that he stumps for in the coming year.

Lindsey Grahamnesty is one for sure.

Another no vote.
If I were a communist , would you shoot me ??
This is about as silly !

Neither this nor Obama's pastor incident bother me as far as the candidates go( I do not agree with the pastors however ). I don't feel either man would act in the manner set forth by any of these church leaders. If I thought they would, it would bother me, but I haven't heard anything from the candidates themselves that remotley resembles either Obama believing that white men created AIDS to kill black people, or McCain is going to wipe Islam off the map. To believe otherwise, for either politician, is ludicrous IMO.

Besides, why is it only the "McCain supporters" screaming about this. I hear and read alot from the Hilary camp as well. Should be willing to call out the fellow dems on this shouldn't we?

John McCain told to dump spiritual guide in row over "war" on Islam - Times Online

John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has been called upon to renounce a church leader he considers his spiritual guide for urging a Christian war to destroy the “false religion” of Islam.

A number of prominent US weblogs demanded he reject the support of Reverend Rod Parsley, of the World Harvest Church of Columbus, an influential televangelist and political figure who campaigned alongside him in the run up to the Ohio primary.

On February 26, a week before the Ohio vote, Mr McCain appeared at a campaign rally in Cincinnati with the evangelical pastor, who praised the candidate as a “strong, true, consistent conservative”. With Mike Huckabee, a Baptist preacher, then continuing to snap at his heels, Mr Parsley’s endorsement was a boon to Mr McCain’s efforts to knock out his last remaining challenger and win over social conservatives. Standing side-by-side with the minister, Mr McCain hailed him as a “spiritual guide”.

Now answer the question: did he call him "his" spiritual guide? Do you have a source quote from John McCain calling this man "his" spiritual guide? Did John McCain spend 20 years in this man's church, lending credibility and stature to his message or did John McCain simply do a photo op with him following his endorsement?

If that is what he did then McCain is an opportunistic and dishonorable person willing to sacrifice his 'straight talk' for whatever preacher can get him the most votes. If he doesn't believe the man to be a spiritual guide why call him one? I wouldn't call somebody who isn't my spiritual guide 'a spiritual guide' specially not knowing what kind of guidance that person does.

"But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me." Luke 19:27

Well now wait a minute. Thats actually the culminating statement of a rather long parable / discourse thats makes up the first 27 verses of The Gospel According to Luke, chapter 19.

It does not mean to literally go out and slay infidels. Its metaphorical for salvation. The meaning behind it is that if one accepts Christ as their lord and savior, they go to heaven, if they reject him, they go to hell.

Just making a clarification here, because the vast majority of Christians would consider Hagee's positions to be heretical at best.

The Dalai Lama is a spiritual guide, but he isn't my spiritual guide.

Pat Robertson is a spiritual guide, but he isn't my spiritual guide.

The imams are spiritual guides, but they aren't my spiritual guide.

The baptist minister in the town I grew up in is a spiritual guide, but he isn't my spiritual guide.

Two Dogs ****ing from the Slapaho tribe is a spiritual guide, but he isn't my spiritual guide.

Marie Leveaux was a spiritual guide, but wouldn't have been my spiritual guide.

The Pope is a spiritual guide, but he isn't my spiritual guide.

Is the picture much clearer now?

Do you care to answer my simple question now or are you gonna do some more Stinger Shuffle for us?

He may not be McCain's personal spiritual guide, but McCain did actively seek his endorsement and has not rejected it since. Also, Obama has nothing to do with this thread.

Did mention Obama or is that shameful issue simply on your mind for some reason?

You keep on trying to compare this to Obama, a non sequiter in this case. Doesn't change the fact that McCain sought his endorsement out.

Endorsement = political.
Spiritual guide = religious instruction.

Not even close in terms of depth of relationship. I still didn't mention Obama at all.

Then why did you repeatedly bring up "did he sit in this guys pews for 20 years" things, if not a swipe at Obama? I also don't understand how you see seeking out this man's endorsement as acceptable. Care to give a straight answer?

Then you do recognize the significance of such a lengthy involvement with someone. At least we cleared that issue up.

I also don't understand how you see seeking out this man's endorsement as acceptable.

Political reasons. If he is a political player and necessary to garner support, it was purely political and well within the bounds of good ethics. An endorsement does not equate to a 20 year...:3oops: I forgot we can mention that for YOUR convenience...

Care to give a straight answer?

I gave you a straight answer. You simply don't like the answer and that is your problem, not mine. The answer remains the same.

So in other words you're saying McCain is willing to sacrifice his straight talk for votes. That makes him sooooo honorable. ;)

So you admit that the comment was a deliberate swipe at Obama, then?

So it's alright for him to seek out the endorsement of a known anti-papist? Where do you draw the line? Whether or not the candidate is Republican?

I am Catholic and I am an anti-papist. You aren't scoring any points here.

I draw the line at the issues I find important. Make whatever ad hom swipes at me you wish, but you still aren't proving a point about McCain. I'm not surprised by that at all.
