British pro-Tibet protesters tried to snuff out the flame

dammit! I think that all these callings for a boycott of the Beijing Olympics have gone too far already! all these pro-Tibet demonstrations and scuffles between the police and protesters during the torch's journey around the world – what is it for? don't people really understand that the Olympic Games are a sports event, not a political one? I'm sure that everything that is happening in concern of pro-Tibet protests against the Beijing Olympics is proceeding from the US. we all know that America and China are in state of confrontation nowadays. so often have I heard different people say that the whole thing started after US secret services organized those separatist actions in Tibet which naturally required force interference of Chinese authorities! then there were protest actions in Tibet and a crackdown by Chinese authorities. now these boycott actions. who might want it? of course it is Washington only that is seeking to have a bargaining chip against China. and so many of us have swallowed that bait! but we need to remember that politics must bear no relation to Olympics because this is a sport that has always been nonpolitical!

everything is political so long as people are involved. throw in an unwarranted aggressive invasion ,a cultural genocide, ... and suhprize, suhprize! ... some people even get a little testy.

silly Tibetans! what did China ever do to them?!

Quote:
One-sixth of the Tibetan population has been exterminated in prison camps or by starvation. Six thousand Buddhist monasteries, temples, and other cultural structures have been destroyed. The most commonly cited number is 1,200,000 Tibetan deaths at the hands of the Chinese since 1950. This number appears in Our Times, in US House legislation, and at Free Tibet Campaign - Chinese occupation of Tibet | Tibetans' human rights

The olympics are political though its not just about tibet its about darfur and chinas human rights records with its own people. Its always had political points to it from the 1936 games covered in pro nazi propaganda.South africa was banned in 1964.The two black runners who where expelled for making black power salutes. The israeli atheletes murdered in munich. In 1976 26 african and caribbean countries boycotted. In 1980 62 countries boycotted moscow. In 1984 this was answered with a boycott from the soviet union and the eastern bloc.In 1996 a bomb interupted the olympics.

Typical talking points of western propaganda over something you know nothing about.

Re: British pro-Tibet protesters tried to snuff out the flame

What does China want with Tibet anyway? Does it have a thriving economic sector on par with Hong Kong or Taiwan? Is it an agricultural powerhouse that feeds the billions of people they have? Whats the advantage of having Tibet?

jfuh, tell us all about how the 1950 invasion was warranted and fair.

I'll admit I have my biases on this topic. but I do know more than "nothing." I'm actually a friend and former and employee of members of the Dalai Lama's family.

At least your asking a valid question. However, it's irrelevant - Why did the aussies want Australia? Why did the US want Nevada? Utah? Montana? Idaho? Wyoming?
