Will today's Protest Marches Make a Difference?

I doubt that they can equal the angry, arrogant, insulting and obnoxious behavior of Trump and his core supporters but I applaud them for trying. It's called fighting fire with fire and it is a American tradition. Trump might as well get used to looking out Whitehouse windows and seeing throngs of people who do not like what he is doing and want him to know it. Again an American tradition and a Constitutional right.

I suspect it will all come down to the economy. If Trump can get the 4% growth he has talked about, or even come close, a lot of sins will be forgiven.

Since the majority of the large marches were in very liberal states who didn't support Trump in the first place, I would suspect the march's message on Saturday will fall on death ears in states that supported him.

Well....it obviously got under his skin. Then again, Trump is so thin skinned pretty much anything gets under his skin.

He has majorities in both houses of Congress and a disciplined party at his back. He's going to come out swinging.

If he does that...it will be a disaster for the GOP. If he and the GOP try to pretend that they have a mandate, they are going to learn very quickly that they don't.

Stand by. They are going to be aggressive.

That seems to be the desperate hope alright. The problem is that economists agree that there is nothing Trump can do to achieve anything like that. In fact most believe policies like tariffs and tearing up NAFTA will do just the opposite. A triillon $ cut in the Federal budget like Ryan is proposing is a good start on another recession, which I feel is far more likely.

I'm not invested either way, although I obviously hope for the best for my country. My point is simply that Trump is betting everything on his ability to lead economic revival. As for the budget, there seems to be daylight between Ryan and Trump.

Not to mention he will stack the Supreme Court with people who know that the Constitution means over the next several decades.

You mean like Trump getting under a lot of liberals skins who are protesting?

Trump may not have a mandate in states that voted for Hillary but he does in states that voted for Trump....which by the way voted him into office.....get over it.

Sky is falling hyperbole's.

More talking point by the left, Trump never said he would tear up NAFTA he said he would renegotiate all the free trade agreements to make the playing field more level. Trump talk about tariffs on American companies who move out of the country and try to sell product back is intended to force those companies to move back and restore jobs here. Jobs? You oppose that?
Bush, Kennedy and Reagan while cutting taxes actually created more tax money over the long term. All tax increases do is force companies to leave the country or cut back on employment.

It's disingenuous for reactionaries such as yourself to portray the protesters as a bunch of violent vandals when the vast majority of them are peaceful and law abiding.
When you try to stifle the political opposition by besmirching those exercising their Constitutional rights, you become the enemy.

Perhaps that's your strategy... to exacerbate division and suppress civil rights?

No wonder so many are leery of Trump and his supporters... the fascist tendencies of their "movement" are already on full display.

When law-abiding people, many who had driven long distances, were also trying to exercise their constitutional rights, they were prevented from joining the crowds that were waiting to see the inauguration by violent protestors who would not allow them to get to their destination by physically blocking their way, your use of the word " fascist" is laughable, unless you are referring to the protesters who deserve the label! When the police got involved, the protestors backed down to avoid possible arrest! If they were so "peaceful and law-abiding" as you claimed in your post, why didn't they stand their ground and argue with the police, too?

There is no excuse in the world for such behavior in America - but fortunately all the protestors' actions were recorded so there is no question about what actually happened to many people in many places in DC! Shameful behavior!

I don't recall arguing that the left had no Constitutional right to protest. I simply pointed out that mimicking Trumps behavior as a means of payback or something is just childishness and appeals only to the liberal choir. If you think you are going to beat trump by being more angry, arrogant, insulting and obnoxious, you are kidding yourself. That might make a good recipe for revenge, but wont help you regain power in Washington.

I'm not so sure about that. Trump is very vulnerable to criticism. One way to make him and his followers do stupid things is to bring this fault out. Conway's "alternate facts" is a good example.

Will today's rather large protests across the country make any true difference regarding what Trump may or may not do in the coming days/months/years?

IYHO do such marches accomplish anything?

ROTFLOL...

No...

They were predicateble...

And watching the hypocritical Left lose their minds is great entertainment.

I didn't say I oppose jobs only that I agree with the economists that say they are not coming back. Tariffs have never worked in any countries favor.

With Trump? Absolutely not. Trump doesn't give a **** about anything that is counter to his own mouth. It was a massive, peaceful protest, but Trump lives in Trump-land and is caught up in his own ego. He'd never listen to anything that doesn't confirm his own opinions and attitudes.

I'm sorry what exactly do you think the first and second amendments are for? How do you think this country was founded? We sure as **** didn't buy our freedoms like Canada...

Elections do have consequences, and one of those consequences is an angry mob burning your **** down if you vote in the wrong guy. Get over it snowflake.

Your rights end where others begin. Burning and destroying other's property is not a civil right.

Deport? you support criminals illegals staying in our country?

Unconstitutionally imprison? Who do you refer to? Post a link?

Surveillance of criminal active has been going on for 200 years...you want to do away with protecting Americans citizens?

Could you give me a link to where Trump said he would deport Muslims?

I have no problem with letting respectful, hardworking people stay here to earn an income.

President Trump said he is fine with shipping US citizens to Gitmo without a trial.

Unconstitutional surveillance of mosques.

Do you ever listen to what the man says?

Protesting in general no longer works, unless it is long-term and disruptive to systems... like the Dakota pipeline protest. It has to get really entrenched, really uncompromising, and really block the cogs of the machinery. Marches that last for half a day or so do nothing. Our country is way too polarized for mere awareness to work anymore.

The Dakota pipeline will restart shortly, I suspect.
