Is Russia your ally?

Thank you! Indeed, Russia has defeated Germany at the cost of 27 Million lives. Thank G-d and Russia the World was saved from the Nazis. This is the main reason why as a Jew I consider Russia my ally.

I think Israel should side with Russia, instead of capitulating to a government that sells-out Israelis to the U.S. - which is a far greater geopolitical threat than Russia and China COMBINED.

Time to forgive and forget or keep our distance?

From the time most of us from the US were born, it's been presented that Russia is not our friend. Recently the tables seem to be turning for a more friendlier stance in certain circles.

Whatever country you are from, do you consider Russia to be your ally or not?
absolutely not

Agreed, mostly, but the real threat is not China...

It is the United States.

Well...yeah. The only real threat to us under current dynamics is ourselves. I was just talking about foreign threats and what's coming in the future.

As far as foreign threats go, it is religious extremism. And, then again, this overlaps into domestic threat as well.

Eh...religious extremism isn't really a threat to our nation as a whole. Yes, they will be able to pull off attacks here and there but it actually isn't a serious threat.

True enough. WMD'S take the #1 position in my mind (and simultaneously, politicians eager to use them)...

My position on this is kinda weird and fatalistic. I feel like as technology advances the ability to limit who can develop nukes will grow to the point where it cannot be stopped. So we either as a people don't get stuck using them or someone's going to use them and it's going to suck. For some reason my fatalistic POV kind of reduces my worry about it, though it's definitely big threat.

Then you have fallen pray to the crime of ultra-nationalism.
russia is no friend of this country in its current configuration....the crumbling of this country would please them to no end...putin and his cronies are no friends of this country.

In many ways Russian society is much better then US society. I am Jewish -- neither Russian nor American.

Just wanted to see who kicked this thread forward.

To the GOP in the 2012 election, russia was our enemy, putin had taken Georgia during bush, and the GOP was the 'patriot' party.

Now, during trump, we have GOPrussians and GOPutinistas .

I am a USA citizen since 1992.

Then, you are an American. So why post:

Do you think Jews who are US citizens aren't American?

What are you talking about? I didn't call Trump incompetent, nor did I say anything at all about the FBI report.

The Democrats said Russia wasn't an enemy. Trump says Russia isn't an enemy. The point was that it showed how incompetent Obama was. The only way that statement makes any sense at all is that taking the same position as Trump makes one incompetent.

It think it's a point well made.
I get it. You think the entire senior leadership of the democrat party are incompetent morons and that Trump too is an incompetent moron.

So now we move on to YOUR position re Russia. I asked some very direct and straightforward questions. I'm not sure why you find those questions so hard to answer.

1 No, you don't get it. I didn't say that at all.
2 I trust Russia even less than I trust the federal government. Apparently, Donald Trump and the rest of the Democrats disagree.

Of course you did. You find Trump just as much a moron as Obama and the entire democrat leadership.

I didn't ask if you trust Russia. I asked if you believe Russia hacked the US presidential election and if so, what do you base your belief upon.

Oh.
Yes, I believe they did, based on the CIA having said that they did, and on having more faith in the CIA than in Vladimir Putin.

I see. So you trust the CIA. Now. And did you read the 13 page report they released backing their claim?

I didn't say I trusted the CIA, just that I find it more credible than Vladimir Putin, whom I don't trust at all. Since you've obviously read the report, why not give a summary and a link to where it can be found.

Thats a helluvan 'endorsement'. In other words...you will believe anything that fits your bias, regardless of whether or not you trust the source.

https://www.us-cert.gov/sites/default/files/publications/JAR_16-20296A_GRIZZLY STEPPE-2016-1229.pdf

In short...it reads blah blah blah for several pages, then offers three paragraphs containing insinuation that maybe it could have been the Russians while admitting it has no evidence and it is pure speculation, followed by several pages on basic internet security protocals that a 7 year old already understands.

I think the wrong question was asked. It shouldn't be is Russia your ally, but is the United States your ally?

What has the United States done to gain the trust of Russia?

When you have Democrats wanting to shoot down Russian Planes, I wouldn't trust them, one bit.

The other day I took a bit of time to review the archives for "appeasement of Russia" and similar terms. It would come as no surprise to you to that many of today's DP Russia lovers were very critical of Obama's "reset" and what many then termed appeasement. Now that Trump is on his knees for Putin many Trumpers have become huge advocates and apologists for Putin and Russia.

Putin is a thief, murderer and a world class thug and Trumpers love him.

Thanks for the link. Now, I can honestly say I did read the report, including the parts that a 7 year old wouldn't understand. I suggest you read those parts as well, and find:

The U.S. Government confirms that two different RIS actors participated in the intrusion into a U.S. political party. The first actor group, known as Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) 29, entered into the party’s systems in summer 2015, while the second, known as APT28, entered in spring 2016.

then look further down to see who APT 28 and 29 actually are.
