When President Obama leaves office next year, how will he conduct himself vis-à-vis the next and future Presidents?

Edit:

My attempts to create this as a poll failed and it timed me out before I could complete it.

The options were to be:

1. He'll be just like President Carter, a critic and an expert on everything

2. He'll be just like Presidents Bush I and II, speaking only when asked by the sitting President for advice and never critical of the sitting President's decisions.

3. Other

PPS - my apologies for the error in the title of the thread - boy, this was a bad first attempt!!

He is full of himself socialworker. That is how he will behave, I presume.

He will be a happy one, as are most when they leave one of the toughest jobs on the planet, trump is going to age big time over the next few years, they all do.

I sure hope no one that voted Trump has the nerve to call Obama "full of himself" or a narcissist.

I would assume that Obama will conduct himself with class as he has done so while president.

I think he'll be chilling and making good money off speeches.

Maybe take up painting like Bush?

Who knows, hope he enjoys retirement.

You have an excess of faith in people, prepare to be disappointed.

He will write a book, work on his library and do what ever he can to help the Democrats if asked. Bill Clinton and him leave office as the most popular Presidents of our generation.

Obama doesn't seemed to have aged much, he looks like he's ready for a new career. And I don't know if Trump will age any more than usual, I think he's used to a brutal work schedule.

Oh, so you missed the grey hair kicking in on overdrive, Grecian formula does wonders. Yeah, making Money! Wanna bet, ain't nothing like sitting in the Oval Office to age someone, look at all of them their before and after pics. Would You want that job? Not this Kid.

I agree. Trumps hair will go from clown orange to a blue gray pinkish mix.

Obama will go from being a government official to being an ex-government officious.

Officious | Define Officious at Dictionary.com

objectionably aggressive in offering one's unrequested and unwanted services, help, or advice; meddlesome:

No, I wouldn't want that job. And I do believe it definitely takes a toll on some people.

Obama will become Secretary General of the U.N.

At least, that's what he's always wanted to be.

if i were him, i'd sleep for about a year solid. my guess is that his post executive role will resemble Jimmy Carter's, unless Michelle or one of his kids seeks higher office.

He will go out on the speech circuit and paid large sums for them.

.....while his wife instals a foundation, nabs a seat in the Senate and preens herself for Mother White House.

He'll do fine. He's a good talker and a decent person, even if he was pretty ineffective as President.
Is it possible for an ex-Pres to run for the Senate? Has it ever happened? Maybe he'll go back to teaching.I doubt he'll retire.

Had the chance...and could not deliver. A failure

I don't give a ****. I just want him to go away already.

...are you really say'in she'll frequent the plastic surgeon every 2 weeks instead of weekly?

He will be active in political commentary, but will adopt the Bush and Clinton post-presidency model of creating foundations, sponsoring social projects of one form or another. Clinton has focused on international development and global women's issues, Bush focused on veterans programs and affairs as well as international health initiatives. Both have their foundation think tanks and public events. The Obama's are already getting ready: https://www.barackobamafoundation.org/.

The foundation's mission is as follows:

As President Obama has said, the change we seek will take longer than one term or one presidency. Real change—big change—takes many years and requires each generation to embrace the obligations and opportunities that come with the title of Citizen.

The Obama Foundation will inspire the next generation of young leaders all over the world. It will convene the brightest minds with the newest ideas from across the political spectrum and draw strength from the rich diversity and vitality of Chicago, the city where the President and First Lady started a family and raised their daughters.

But most of all, the Foundation will ask all of us to take on big challenges and to believe that we can meet them together. Our history and President Obama's legacy give us hope that even the most difficult change is possible, and the Foundation exists to carry on that great, unfinished project of renewal and global progress.

I suspect Obama will be heavily invested in domestic social issues, particularly affecting young African American males. His administration was active, but somewhat quiet about much of its work in this area. But you can see the fingerprints of President Obama, Arne Duncan, Eric Holder, and John King in education and mentorship policy for people of color. Look at My Brother's Keeper for a clue as to what may lay in store for Obama https://www.whitehouse.gov/my-brothers-keeper.

In the future, I would suggest writing out the poll options on a separate text file, then copy and paste them when you're ready.

To answer your question, I don't know necessarily that I would compare him to Carter specifically, but President Obama did say something interesting:

WASHINGTON — President Obama is rethinking his plans to withdraw from the political arena after he leaves office next year, hinting to friends and supporters that he wants to add his voice to the shellshocked Democratic activists and elected officials who are now angrily vowing to oppose Donald J. Trump’s presidency.

White House aides say they expect the president to try to refrain from criticism during the transition because of his belief in the importance of a courteous and dignified transfer of power. But while the president holds out hope that he might influence Mr. Trump, he has made it clear that once out of office he will not remain silent if Mr. Trump goes too far in undoing his legacy.

“I’m going to be constrained in what I do with all of you until I am again a private citizen,” Mr. Obama, who will be living a few miles from the White House next year, told a meeting this past week of Organizing for Action, the group that maintains his political movement. “But that’s not so far off.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/20/u...nto-fray-as-democrats-counter-trump.html?_r=0

What he intends to do exactly when he's a private citizen is of course unclear.

I suspect that you are as likely to get your wish as I am that Trump will go away.
