Yes or no? Anything which isn't an unqualified "yes" is a "no," because anything other than an unqualified "yes" will in some way mitigate or excuse the evil.

I'm not looking to debate it; I'm just philosophically curious. This is a closed poll, so your name will not appear.

The military side to ISIS is nearly gone.

The underlying problems remain. Those problems are evil, and we played a role in creating them.

Yes, they are undoubtedly evil. My question is, what were the social conditions that allowed evil to take root in the first place? And what's the path toward never letting said evil take place again after they are defeated?

Cause the answer to that question, in my eyes, is a lot more complex than "cuz Islam." It's something policymakers will have to think long and hard about.

No, ISIS is a swell bunch of guys and they'd be great to have a beer with.

What the **** is the purpose of this thread?

What an utterly stupid question.

Social conditions turn people evil? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

I'm waiting for someone to opine that ISIS isn't evil.
This could take awhile.

Of course they are. And we created them.

This is going to be one of those threads where pretty much everyone takes a subjective concept and thinks it is objective based on their beliefs.

As for me, I'm just here to watch. :popcorn2:

Yes, more evil than Satan in Hell and in line with Adolf Hitler.

Killing the innocent people is not an arguable thing

Philosophically it is a tough call. After all, they are not, as far as we know, doing these horrible things to be evil nor even without reason or for pleasure in the the vulgar meaning. They seem to believe they are doing good and acting for the Greater Good. So, while they are real and total enemies that we should and must destroy, it is not clearly, what we should call evil.

Of course they are. And we created them.

Had we shot the generals after Baghdad fell, they would not have built ISIS? Is it that?

What is evil and what is not is a subjective concept. That's the point, Medusa. I might very well agree with you that it's evil, but that's just my opinion and nothing more.

We did nothing to create Muhammads Islam. ISIS is doing what their prophet did himself, and has obligated his followers to do. Put the blame where it belongs.

I voted no just to be a dick. But destroying ISIS won't solve the Middle East problem.
