If Trump Dropped Out, Who Would You Vote For?

If Trump Dropped out, Who Would You Vote For?

Mike Pence is a textbook neoconservative when it comes to foreign policy. Moreover, given his theocratic record on social issues, I cannot imagine how any libertarian could vote for the guy. You could not find a candidate more antithetical to liberty than Mike Pence. May as well resurrect the corpse of Jerry Falwell and put him at the top of the ticket.

Still better than Trump/Hillary.

If I'm wrong I happily rescind that part of the comment. Nonetheless, if left leaning libertarian principles are important to you, then honestly looking at a comparison between Pence's and Clinton's policy and voting record would not logically lead one to choose Pence unless you were trying to make some kind of tangential point.

Have you gone through the list of Pence's positions?

Mike Pence on the Issues

Still better than Trump/Hillary.

I would unhesitatingly vote for Pence. The fact that he agreed to be on Trump's ticket is, of course, a hallmark of his (apparent) poor judgment, but he's infinitely more fit for the Presidency than Clinton.

A poll went up today asking if members thought Trump would drop out of the race over his lewd remarks scandal.

If he did, it is possible the GOP would nominate Pence, since he is already on the ticket and would not require a major modification on State Ballots.

Would he be a more acceptable candidate for #NeverTrumpers?

Would those of you who chose Hillary as the "lesser of two evils" still vote for her then?

How about those of you preferring third party candidates over Trump or Hillary?

So if this actually occurred, who would you vote for?

Pence? Hillary? Johnson? Stein? Other? Or not voting no matter what?

If Trump does drop out, and Pence becomes the GOP nominee, there's no way in Hell I'd ever vote for him.

Regardless of what happens, I'm still voting for Jill Stein. 3rd Party all the way!

Still better than Trump/Hillary.

So as a libertarian you think that a man that is for gay conversion therapy instead of HIV prevention, a man that signed a bill requiring women who get an abortion pay for a funeral for their aborted fetus, a man that is for same sex couples being arrested when apply for a marriage license.... is better than Hillary.

You are no libertarian then.

Look dude, I'm not voting for Hillary Clinton. Get over it. No means no.

I don't care if you vote for Hillary or not. She is going to win either way. My point is that a libertarian voting for Mike Pence would be like a capitalist voting for Karl Marx.

Hardly. Pence is more libertarian than Hillary, who is libertarian on almost absolutely nothing.

You're appealing to ridicule. You still haven't demonstrated why Hillary is a less ridiculous choice for libertarians than Pence.

Question: What are the Republican rules if a presidential nominee drops out? Would the new nominee be the elected nominee's selection for VP or the Repulican candidate with the second highest number of delegates acquired during the primaries?

I believe in such circumstances the GOP could do whatever it wanted, including a recall of delegates for a vote on the list of original candidates, or simply mailing them such a list for immediate response. The GOP could just appoint a candidate either from the list of the originals or simply someone the Party leadership selects. Who knows what they will do.

That's why I put the "Other" selection and you can insert your choice as you so desire.

Yeah but between them all, there is Hillary who certainly has her problems but is a better choice than any of the other options. Pence might not impact you or me directly with his bigoted social agenda, but my concience would keep me from ever voting for a candidate that that had that kind of a discriminatory agenda for anyone. If Pence had his way, gays and lesbians in this country would be set back 50 years. Its not right to do people that way.

See that's important to you, but I really don't care for or vote on most social issues. Most are too polarizing anyway for me to get all worked up about it as well. To me it's not as important as certain issues that I would never vote Hillary on like her handling of classified information and seemingly lack of technological know-how.

Trump and Clinton are two sides of the same coin. They just say what they say to whoever is listening in order to get votes. With that you don't know what you'll be getting as soon as they get sworn in. They could completely change their agenda, now that they have the power to do so. I'd vote for Biden or Pence over either of them. At least they have principles. And I like people who stand by principles way better than people who don't.

Thanks.

IMO, that's not a very organized way of dealing with such a situation. That type of system would allow virtually a small group of people to override the will of the voters.

The voters in the primaries, via the delegate process, did select a second choice. If I'm not mistaken, Cruz would be that the Candidate with the next highest number of delegates, which would make him next in line...if the rules were set up that way.

Now, I personally find Cruz to be as disgusting as Pence, and just a notch below Trump. But, in all fairness to the discussion, I'm extremely disappointed in all of the nominees affiliated with all parties.

I only raise this possibility because I'm thinking that people who affiliate themselves with a particular party might want a nominee who actually participated in the primary election process. But then again, thinking back over the other 15 candidates, maybe not.

I knew immediately that I couldn't vote for either Democrat, Mr. Trump or Sen. Clinton, and I was hoping to have a chance to vote for Gov. Walker. Since he's out I'll vote for Gov. Johnson. Even Gov. Johnson would be better than Mr. Trump or Sen. Clinton.

"The will of the voters" would be to do away with political parties altogether and only like 20% turnout for the primaries. The GOP's only concern is self interest, so this accusation is like saying a football coach complained about a ref's decision

as opposed to the dems? LOL

I might sit home if he dropped out. It's not much of a statement in MA, but there you go.

Still, Pence is pretty bad. Far far right. But at least his far far right crap won't get through congress any faster than Bernie's would have done. (He's also a lying swine, but that doesn't seem to be that much of a deciding factor this campaign).

Walker is a far cry from Johnson! WTF?? How do you make that leap?
There's no way I am voting Johnson. I would vote Walker...
