If Trump Dropped Out, Who Would You Vote For?

If Trump Dropped out, Who Would You Vote For?

Destroy the entire ticket Trump. Nothing less shall be satisfactory.

Figure out if we need the contemporary equivalent to the 10% plan later.

Is he? Personally, I think Pence is an...odd...choice for a left leaning libertarian. But whatevs.

It's interesting to watch this. You saying you'd actually vote for any Repub over Hillary apparently means you're stated lean is a lie. FWIW, I think you're actually pretty consistent. I don't think you have much use for either party or their respective candidates.

How did this change from a simple "What if?" poll to a "You can't be Libertarian-Left if you don't vote for Hillary" issue?

How does Abbarzorkzog's being Libertarian-Left disqualify him from voting another party but Democrat? Or am I missing something?

I'm Left-leaning Libertarian because while I believe in individual rights and liberty, and a relatively small government; I also believe that:

1. Government should provide for public education because an educated citizen is better able to make informed decisions; and

2. The government should provide criminal rehabilitation programs to prevent recidivism; and

3. The government should also provide at least basic health care for the common citizen.

These beyond the duty to provide for the common defense, handle foreign affairs, and regulate trade.

I sometimes vote Libertarian, sometimes Democrat (I voted for Bill Clinton and Barack Obama...the first time each ran only); sometimes Republican, (Ronald Reagan the first time he ran). I'm voting for Trump this time for reasons already explained ad nauseam. However, if he dropped out (which he won't) I simply wondered what others might do about their vote.

A poll went up today asking if members thought Trump would drop out of the race over his lewd remarks scandal.

If he did, it is possible the GOP would nominate Pence, since he is already on the ticket and would not require a major modification on State Ballots.

Would he be a more acceptable candidate for #NeverTrumpers?

Would those of you who chose Hillary as the "lesser of two evils" still vote for her then?

How about those of you preferring third party candidates over Trump or Hillary?

So if this actually occurred, who would you vote for?

Pence? Hillary? Johnson? Stein? Other? Or not voting no matter what?

Only option would be Pence, since voting has already started. Cant change the ballot paper mid voting.

Where have I ever voiced my support for Trump? Go ahead, find a post. I'll wait.

If I'm wrong I happily rescind that part of the comment. Nonetheless, if left leaning libertarian principles are important to you, then honestly looking at a comparison between Pence's and Clinton's policy and voting record would not logically lead one to choose Pence unless you were trying to make some kind of tangential point.

Have you gone through the list of Pence's positions?

Mike Pence on the Issues

Perhaps the libertarian is more important than the left

Seems odd to me personally but okay. I imagined that "libertarian" was a word that meant something. When I look at Pence's positions I don't know what I'm seeing that I should be considering "libertarian."

Yes, Abbarzorkzog is DISQUALIFIED from voting for Pence.

Jesus Christ...

Which makes you wonder why he ever decided to vote for Bernie Sanders. The guy doesn't have a 'small government' bone in his body.

... You have to laugh though. This is the same same 'small government' Libertarian who was bashing Clinton supporters and going in favor of Sanders who... is himself... to the left of Clinton and to the right of Pence.

Ideological sense = 0.

"I first supported a guy who's consistently been ahead of the curve on practically every civil rights issue ever, now I'm supporting a guy who wants to turn da homos into fertilizer, scrap healthcare reform, make the Patriot Act permanent and make flag desecration illegal."

Again, a totally reasonable progression of political positions.

The only way you could vote for a Republican other than Trump would be by write in vote. The deadline has and passed and state ballots are finalized. Its too late to change people on the ticket. State laws govern these procedures and its a done deal.

The Republican Party is stuck with Trump on the ballot and that cannot be changed as deadlines have passed.

Some Republicans want the equal of a late term abortion of their own decision to have Trump be their standard bearer.

Sorry. You got pregnant by Trump - its now way way too late.

What kind of precedent would this set for future elections if a party was able to force out an unpopular nominee because they believe that candidate is a loser in November? When is too late? The day before the election? Two weeks before?

Its pretty ridiculous to even be entertaining this idea that Trump can now be replaced thirty days out from the election in a climate where man have already voted and ballots are already printed and finalized by state law.

Obviously now, I'm not so sure about that anymore - the Democratic Party isn't the same one it was during the Bush and Obama Admins.

...he said, during the Obama administration.

"If Truman were alive today, he'd be a Republican," he said in 1948.

Pence is NOT on the ballot as a Presidential candidate. The only way a person could vote for him as President would be as a write in.

Small government. States' rights. And he's closer to being a true conservative as opposed to the Neocons that we saw in the GOP throughout the 1980's, 1990's and 2000's, and in the Democratic establishment from Bush onward.

Oh, and he'd be the only one who could stop Hillary. Johnson and Stein don't have a chance.

As it stands, I am voting for Johnson (likely).

Mike Pence is a textbook neoconservative when it comes to foreign policy. Moreover, given his theocratic record on social issues, I cannot imagine how any libertarian could vote for the guy. You could not find a candidate more antithetical to liberty than Mike Pence. May as well resurrect the corpse of Jerry Falwell and put him at the top of the ticket.

Your exchange with X Factor only cements my belief that he will defend anyone on this forum as long as they're voting for a Republican. You are literally questioning how somebody goes from:

- universal health care
- increased gender equality
- pro-gay marriage
- lower military spending
- increasing scope of government
- little care for 'states rights'

and all of the other positions in the generically liberal bag of goodies to:

- none of those things.

Abb's is making it up as he goes, you called him on it and X Factor decided that the issue was him not being Libertarian enough, and not the very fact that there is no reason that a Sandernista should ever consider 'Mike Pence'.

This reminds of paid posters named Azura and AdamT a few years ago. Their ideological common sense was also 0. To them, it just couldn't be whomever they were getting paid to oppose. It didn't matter who won, it just couldn't be that person they were being paid to oppose online.

There is no way I could ever support or vote for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. My support has been for Gary Johnson since the New Hampshire GOP primary when it became evident Trump was going to be their nominee. If by chance someone replaced Trump, it won't make a difference on the eventual Clinton win. A lot of those who support Trump won't vote for his replacement, the GOP made their bed with Trump. Now they must sleep in it. A change now only enhances the margin of a Hillary Clinton Victory.

Yes Pence is leaps and bounds better than Trump. I would vote for him, namely because A) he is a politician with recorded stances. Need I go on?

Small goverment, states' rights...yadda, yadda, yadda is political hype and dishonest portrayals of conservative values. History is filled with those who make it to higher office under the banner of "conservative" has had opportunities to push such agendas, but once in office he or she will march lock-step with the members of both parties and engage in whatever strategies/tactics necessary to preserve his or her seat. And even if that includes perpetuating mythical political philosophies and values.

Leaps and bounds ahead of Trump?

Let's see Mike Pence has supported the following:

1. A constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

2. A bill to jail same-sex couples applying for a marriage license.

3. Diverting funding from HIV prevention to gay conversion therapy.

4. Has served on the boards of anti-gay groups.

5. Argued that the Employee Anti-Discrimination Act would ban the possession of bibles at work.

6. Signed a bill that requires women to pay for funerals for their aborted fetuses.

The guy is absolute nut. Trump is actually better than he is.

I knew nothing about Pense, so I did some first-time googling on him yesterday.

I stopped when I got to the part about him being anti-evolution. Anti-evolutionists are automatically unqualified to be President, so out he goes.

Johnson I checked out a while back, and with him I stopped when I got to his 23% sales tax. Here's why:

Although I have a decent capital base, it is only decent. The return on investment distribution is just enough to preserve principal. Distribution plus social security leaves me short of the amount required for Federal income tax liability- I pay no Federal income tax.

Johnson wants to scrap Fedeal income tax, which I do not pay, for a sales tax on I think everything except personal real estate sales, meaning I would go from no Federal tax to a gross Federal tax bill of several thousand dollars a year. His rebate would not be enough to cover my expenses, and it pisses me off that renters like me get stiffed while homeowners continue to bask with their completely undeserved sweetheart tax deals.

So out Johnson goes.

I figure GreenStein is a warmed-over version of Johnson and Hillary put together, so why bother with her?

That leaves Hillary or a write-in (I think that is an option in my state). If it looks like Hillary has it locked up I may write-in. Otherwise (ugh) it will be her.

Maybe but Trump's a nut too! The one thing you have to ask yourself is, which nut do you like better, and in this case, I like nutty Pence better than Nutty Trump. Nutty Trump's policies (if he has any) will directly impact me. Nutty Pence's policies have not and will not affect me in the slightest. And Nutty Johnson shouldn't hold the Nuclear Codes anymore than nutty trump.

Yeah but between them all, there is Hillary who certainly has her problems but is a better choice than any of the other options. Pence might not impact you or me directly with his bigoted social agenda, but my concience would keep me from ever voting for a candidate that that had that kind of a discriminatory agenda for anyone. If Pence had his way, gays and lesbians in this country would be set back 50 years. Its not right to do people that way.
