Should public schools be required by law to recite the Pledge every morning?

Should reciting the Pledge be mandatory in public schools?

Anyone who thinks the pledge should be forced upon people who do not agree with it need to be deported to North Korea where they will find their authoritarian Meca.

I guess one would be that minorities in the U.S. are "oppressed".

I agree with that one... Alright then. Thank you for answering...

At schools we try to do our best from an early age to not allow free thinking... that way we get very little dissent later on.

How stupid.

What is the point of forcing someone to repeat a loyalty?

If they are loyal...then why do they need to repeat it?

And if they are not loyal...them repeating it means nothing.

Stupid...a very 1950's thing to do.

Me? I am loyal to honor first, humanity second and my country a DISTANT third.

It is also an act of requiring students to be dishonest -- many people like minorities and disabled people who do not get help have nothing to be grateful for.

Government schools are based on an 18th century Prussian model designed to create obedient workers to do boring redundant jobs for the Fascist State without complaints.
You can see from most of the posters on this forum it is working as designed.

Of course... and that oppression continues today. It is not overt but teachers do what they can to create conformity...

Every morning the students stand, face the flag, hand over heart and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Should that be mandatory of all public schools in your state? Would you support that legislation? Please tell us why.
No.

Requiring anything of the sort would be anti-American, not to mention anti-freedom.

Definitely. It is also requiring dishonesty. Thus it would teach students to cheat on all work.

Teachers have little discretion to stray from the mandated curriculum. They are required to teach the textbooks version of education which are written by the corporate establishment. The so called science we all accept as facts, is simply studies paid for by corporations with a vested interest in the outcome. Universities have become the mouthpiece of their corporate owners who build their buildings and pay for the departments that produce the science that make them money.
After years of government brain washing education, most people are completely incapable of rational thought.

Thanks. It would take me a little time to more fully explain how I feel about the "liberal agenda" I'm referring to that has so turned me off from the Democratic Party. You list your "location" as New Zealand. Are you American or are you really from New Zealand?

Please point out one specific case of indoctrination that is listed in a school/district curriculum... thanks.

Schools indoctrinate children to conform to authority, expect and accept 8 hours of work 5 days a week, and that arbitrary rules are not to be questioned but abided. That is my opinion. I am not stating that the indoctrination is helpful or harmful, only that it exists.

I am an American. Lived in NZ for ten years.

So parents indoctrinate too... so?

Sure do, parents should be expected to have more of a right to do so than a public school system though. Besides, you asked.

I know they do. I was making a statement. The question was more... "so what"?

You asked for a specific type of indoctrination included in a school system. I offered multiple examples. To me your statement is disregarding my examples because you think it doesn't matter. I already answered the "so what?" in my initial response to your question.
To recap the "so what?" question you proposed that I already answered.
"That is my opinion. I am not stating that the indoctrination is helpful or harmful, only that it exists."
