Some pundit somewhere said, "Trump doesn't want to be president, he only wants to be elected president." The way I see it that might actually be true.

There is growing speculation that Trump is attempting to sabotage his own candidacy. It was at one point Trump's election to lose. Lately Trump and much of his staff are beginning to resemble the running of the bulls of Barcelona through a china shop in Waterford.

For whatever reason, and however possible, Trump is acting less presidential than ever. Now, that doesn't mean he will back out of the election, but in my opinion Trump has little to no desire to be stuck in a ****ty and restrictive job for four years. That is a different kind of crazy than Trump is used to and surely not a kind of crazy he wants to be stuck with.

Trump, through pressure and negotiations behind the curtain, may drop out before November. No, you say? When is the last time we've had such godawful candidates from both parties? Hillary isn't setting the world on fire but Trump is doing little better. The GOP might be wise to go for a Hail Mary.

If Trump backs out, who would take his place?

Ronald McDonald of course. Who else could possibly take Donald Trump's place but him?

Murdoch's WSJ openly called for Trump to abandon the race and hand down the torch to Pence. As such, there's little room for speculation on that end. More importantly, however, only a republican with no prospects whatsoever and a political career past its twilight years would accept the terrible mandate of cleaning Trump's dump. Out of that list, only Pence meets the criteria.

You are probably correct, though none on the list are worth a trip to the polling station.

Pence, a man politically desperate enough to associate his name with Trump's, would be only slightly better than Trump and in reality would likely be a devil no one really knows. What we see may not at all be what we get.

Wanting to take Trump down tells me the GOPe isn't serious about winning either. More proof there's only one major party now. Them vs. US

Pence is by no means benign and his record in his home state of Indiana attests to that, but as this election season taught us all, there's republican crazy and there's Trump crazy. It's only in that sense that a Pence presidency would be better - it wouldn't precipitate WWIII.

What it actually is is establishment vs. anti-establishment. Both of the smoldering, sputtering, farting ruling parties still don't get it. That is a major reason why Trump and Sanders were/are doing surprisingly well. The GOP and the Democratic Parties are actually factions of the Corpgov oligarchy. Citizens have begun to figure that out and they don't like it. It is oligarchy vs. the rest of us. Guess who is winning?

I didn't see the option "punt", so I voted "other".

But I'll say it again:

"This is what happens when a PR stunt turns into a Presidential nomination"! :lamo

I think that's a good observation, and as much as I'm against Trump (the man), I was thinking exactly the same the other day as I watched the defections from the GOP (to HRC) pour forth.

It's probably the oddest thing I've seen in national politics.

CRUZ because they hate him also.

I picked Cruz only because he came in 2nd with GOP primary voters. Of course, you could go w/Pence by default as Trump's running mate, but here's the problem with that: NOBODY voted for him in the primaries nor the RNC.

The VP is always a tag-a-long candidate. That's where the default aspect comes in. But by right should Trump drop out, the only legitimate way a new Republican candidate should get selected is by GOP delegate vote. And by that tally, Cruz came in 2nd in the vote count.

But as some have already pointed out, he's no popular than Trump right now.

I would think it would have to be Pence, although I don't think that would make much of a difference come election day. I'd love to see a candidate who could actually beat Hillary Clinton (something neither Trump nor Pence can do), like Kasich or Rubio or Ryan.

Please call me if you hear Trump is dropping out. I will go out and spend my paychecks on lottery tickets. Then I will know it's my lucky better than Christmas day.

Mike Pence or Kasich in my opinion. Ted Cruz is even more terrifying and despised than Trump.

If trump pulls out in September/October, the Republican Party could possibly not have enough time to put someone on the ballot.

First a poll on What if Hillary DIES Before the Election??????
Now the conspiracy-inspired poll: What if the Assassinator-in-Chief was just jokin' around about sticking it out??
I'm looking forward to similar polls about those other two parties fielding candidates - what are their names anyway? What if Jill Stein dies before November? Huh? Then What???

Probably Cruz?

Well, either Cruz, or they'd run a lot of polls to see who might do best against Hillary and go with whomever it was.
