Dealing in facts instead of silly distractions means accomplishing nothing? Advice: think before you post.

The facts are this was Islamic terror. It has nothing to do with the availability of guns. Terrorists will obtain a gun if they want one. And they will use that gun for terror.

Fact is, no terror means no deaths. That means prevent the cause of terror. And I know you are incapable of admitting what that really is.

Now what facts show any progress, but lip service, initiated by the liberal government?

It was an act of Terrorism. "Islamic" was the only choice for "terrorism" so I am refuting "Islamic". It was an act of terrorism in the name of ISIL. The shooter pledged allegiance and ISIL took responsibility.

Domestic gun violence is street crime or "American" crime not based on international agendas.

An example of what could happen when serious mental health issues are left untreated.

An example of marginalizing the serious problem with Islam . In other words, an apology.

Both, combined with self hating homophobia and likely mental illness.

Exactly. It's not either/or. This person was destined to be a ****-up. He could have been a Southern Baptist and it wouldn't have made a difference.

Your country is fulll of insane people that commit mass shootings and this was done by an insane American citizen,it is not about islam, islam is not responsible for your gun problems.

It is responsible for this one.

This guy sounds like a well rounded nut job. Homophobia mixed with radical religion, history of violence back into at least middle school, and obviously nuts. Take your pick whatever you want the reason to be. I heard today he was texting the wife while he stood in the bathroom killing people.

If Mateen was a closet gay, which it seems most of his acquiescence's and his own wife believe he was gay, how can he be homophobia?

I did not say it had anything to do with guns, beyond guns being used. It also might not have to do with religion. We do not know. That is why I deal in facts, and let people like you worry about using the deaths for your political goals.

If you equate with defending the national security of the country as political, so be it. And we do know it had something to do with religion"Allah Akbur" being screamed removes all doubt.

More apologies?

Why do you insist on trying to put words into my mouth?

Yeah i don't like the options. He targeted homosexuals. That implies an anti-homosexual agenda.

The director of the FBI said that Mateen claimed a connection to al qaeda, hezbollah, the al nusra front, and ISIL. That doesn't make sense, al nusra is an enemy of hezbollah, al qaeda is an enemy of hezbollah, and ISIL is an enemy of al nusra. There's no sense in claiming that he took this religious motivation that seriously as his stated connections are notably inconsistent.

So i question whether religion actually motivated his behavior that much. He was born and raised in the US. He used a gun to kill people. That would seem to qualify as domestic gun violence.

So no options for mental illness or all of the above? This is a very biased poll.

One of the dumbest polls ever seen

Blame Gallup --- it's their poll.

I characterize it this way...

1) Radical Islamic terrorism, first and foremost. That seems to have been his overriding motivation.

2) LGBT aspect, possibly partially out of a self-hating gay suppression, but probably more due to his belief's utter disapproval of homosexuality in general. It was more a high-profile way to make his point.

Then, gun violence, but it doesn't deserve a number. The gun aspect was merely a tool to carry out #s 1 and 2 above. Nothing more.

Actually, your first choice should be "Radical Islamic Terrorism", because it is in no way reflective of the beliefs of the overwhelming majority of Islam.

Like Mr. Obama, you would like to whitewash the role Islamic beliefs play in violence like this by spreading the false notion that it is not rooted in mainstream Islam. Nothing more than the aberrant acts of a lunatic fringe that no good Muslim could ever condone, you would have us believe.

But the facts say otherwise. Reliance of the Traveler is the 14th century text that is the official statement of shari'ah, the code governing most aspects of life that observant Muslims are supposed to follow. It has been approved as authentic by many Islamic theological authorities, among them al-Azhar University, the seat of Islamic learning for more than one thousand years and the most prestigious Sunni Muslim theological institution in the world.

Polls in predominately Muslim nations and among Muslims here have repeatedly shown that large proportions of people who identify themselves as Muslims--often majorities--favor shari'ah and want to be governed in accordance with it. And what does the officially approved statement of shari'ah, Reliance of the Traveler, say about sodomy? it lists it as an "enormity," i.e. one of the most serious kinds of transgression. And it calls for people who engage in it to be killed, making clear that is Allah's will.

Actually , both .
WHY do we make it so easy for the ''semi-insane'' , the criminal , and the insane to procure weapons of mass murder .. WHY ?
One word/term ... NRA .. and their gutless conservative supporters .

So no options for mental illness or all of the above? This is a very biased poll.

Its a loaded poll. If you have to pick only one as a primary description of him, it should have been "Islamic Terrorist" or "Typical Mass Shooter".

Psych aint my thing but it is something like he knows he is gay, he hates it so to compensate he strikes out at other gays. I don't think this is that uncommon.

The above is an example of not understanding the problem. Not surprising at all.

It wasn't terrorism. There wasn't a political aspect. It was a religiously motivated hate crime. So option b.

Sorry, I don't have time to read any of this thread, and I typically try to read the whole thing if I reply. That said, here's my nickel, adjusted for inflation.

I figure this guy was a real nut, and that he used radical Islam because it gave him something to cloak his mental illness in. Something that made him feel important and part of a larger group. Given his family background, it make sense that he chose this and not, say, the Skinheads or The Army of God.

Islamic terror because because organizations claiming to be supremely islamic have been calling for this kind of action, so fine I am not going to waste time, I blame them. If they dont like it they can disavow violence towards the infidels. I dont feel that this is unfair in the least.
