Of course not. They should certainly turn them around though.
 
Absolutely. But, if they don't chum the water first, it's pointless. The illegals will just go back and use hot air balloons the next time, and then the air forces will have to get involved, and possibly ground forces as well to kill the survivors - especially the children - of any shoot downs.

Of course they should. The trek would dry up immediately and it would save thousands of lives.
 
Hmm technically they do. They however first rescue the people. Once on the coast guard or navy ships then they sing the raft/boat/ship so it cant be used again.

No. Not only would that be ****ing barbaric and insane, it would be completely ineffective; it wouldn't stop any of the rest from trying to come anyways.

That's frankly a terrible idea.

What they should do is build a giant oil rig in the middle and make it into a refugee camp, then we can argue about who gets them for the next 2 decades while they slowly turn the oil rig refugee camp into an actual community of sorts, with practices we find odd caused by the limits of the situation.

Perhaps yes.

If the raft is used as a tool to enter the country illegally, an argument might be able to be made for its confiscation. But it should only be enforced through a the due process of a court of law, IMO.

I believe immigration should only be legal, and a government's duty is to enforce the law. Now immigration policy may be up for debate - but legality should not!

Send the Coast Guard out to do a safety inspection. If it flunks, turn it around.

Coast Guard approved life preservers, navigation lights, fire extinguisher, log book, to name a few.

Bureaucrat them out of existence!

Here is somthing from two years ago

About 500 migrants are feared to have drowned after the boat carrying them from Egypt to Malta was apparently rammed and deliberately sunk by people-traffickers, an intergovernmental group has said.

The news – based on the accounts of two Palestinian survivors – emerged on the same day up to 200 more people were feared dead when another boat heading to Europe capsized off Libya.

The Geneva-based International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said there was no independent verification for what happened to the vessel heading to Malta, mainly because only nine people are believed to have survived. The IOM's account comes from the two Palestinians, who were rescued by another boat and taken to Sicily.

Malta's armed forces said it had flown seven survivors, who were suffering from hypothermia, to a hospital in Crete. It said initial information pointed to a collision of some sort between a boat carrying up to 400 migrants and another vessel.

If the Palestinian men's account is correct, by the IOM's tally about 2,900 migrants have died this year in the Mediterranean against 700 for all of 2013. "If this story, which police are investigating, is true, it would be the worst shipwreck in years – not an accident but a mass murder, perpetrated by criminals without scruples or any respect for human life," the IOM said in a statement.

Historically it's not been murder to kill invaders to those countries. But killing them does seem inappropriate in today's climate. Return them to the proper shore and destroy their boats. Might help to give them the message that they will never find a better life by invading.

You think mass murder will solve that? They are fleeing from regimes far worse.

And of course we should not do such a barbaric, unevolved, backwards, evil thing as to sink civilians into the ocean because their lives are so horrible they'd risk sailing in horrible rafts across vast amounts of water. We're not apes.
