Most people don't support high taxes or low taxes, strict drug laws or strict lenient drug laws, strict immigration laws or lenient immigration laws, etc because they think it's 'logical' - they support it because their moral intuitions tells them whether it's morally 'right' or 'wrong'.

Yes. Whenever "the masses" are involved, it's much about gut feelings, intuition or crowd psychology.

And in democracies, candidates and parties have to sell their "product" like companies do, with all kinds of marketing and advertizing skills.

You have just defined the primary difference between right and left.

The left values feelings and intuition.

The right values logic and facts.

Uh huh. Facts like "tax cuts spur growth" or "legislating what bathrooms transgenders must use will protect your children." Those "facts."

Presumably you can provide the formal evidence to back that up rather than it just being your intuition? :2razz:

I agree in the sense that most people are driven not by reason or self-interest but by ideology and identity. "Moral intuition" though is a bit of oxymoron: morality is a set of rules derived from certain axioms (the freedom of choice for classical liberals, or a laundry list Biblical commandments for religious conservatives, for example).

Perception of morality as some vague gut feeling, is peculiar to the post-modern relativist "liberal" (NOT!) mentality.

I think you are confusing one particular sentimentalist brand of moderate leftism with the whole of it. Understandable, considering the current toxic environment at American universities, for example, where the Left is busy imposing speech codes and creating "safety zones". But it is far from being a general rule.

Some Communist mass murderer, like Joseph Stalin, certainly did not give a hoot about "feelings and intuition", but rather proceeded systematically, based on facts and logic, exterminating everyone who stood in his way.

On the other hand, the social conservatives (I assume you include them in "the Right") are perpetually worked up about stuff that has (for them) some giant emotional charge but has nothing to do with "facts and logic".

Oh no it doesn't. The right is every bit as emotional, sometimes more emotional, as the left. I don't see the left trying to make national policy over things that they claim some imaginary man in the sky told them to do. That's all on the right.

Seriously, you need to get out more. The left is just as involved with "some imaginary man in the sky".

Here is as good a starting point as any: The Christian Left Welcomes You

Google is your friend. Searches on words like "progressive religion" might help alleviate that bias you have.
