Its time to pivot - The Trump running mate will be....

Who will be the Republican Nominee?

  • Murkowski - not much witty to say about a woman Senator from Ark - not named Clinton

    Votes: 0 0.0%

  • Total voters
    46
  • Poll closed .
Id expect him to look outside of the mainstream. Wouldnt be surprised to see him court Susana Martinez or an even bigger swing with someone like Melissa Melendez. Then again...dood could enlist Mark Cuban.

Gonna throw a few names out there see what you folks think:

Branstad - Iowa governor, longest serving governor in American history.
Sandoval - Nevada governor, floated as a possible SCOTUS nominee, but he declined, ending speculation
Scott Walker - proven capable of selling conservative policy in Wisconsin.

And just because, General James Mattis. He has more gravitas than anyone in America!

How can you come to Washington without someone with legislative experience?

Murkowski is not from Ark. - she is from Alaska. And I don't see her - or anyone sane and half-decent- being on the ticket with The Donald.

I stand corrected. You are right, I should have known better.

I was looking for woman Republican senators that might help him balance his ticket: Male/Female; Outsider/Insider; Rural/Urban.

I think Trump would be a fool not to come to Washington without someone that understands how Washington works AND I do think he needs a woman on the ticket, so she is still a good candidate. Whether she or any of the others I mentioned would risk political suicide to run with Trump is another matter.

Walker might be a good choice. Both he and Trump are outsiders able to win when everybody is against them. Walker has won 4 elections for the same job. Trump, the no way candidate, appears to be on the way to winning the first step toward POTUS. Both against the odds. Both are equally hated, except by the voters.

I am from NY, I know the difference. But, the differences are subtle and not practical.

Christie is from Newark and spent most of his career in Northern NJ, which are suburbs of NYC and a part of the NY metro area. May be point out that the NY Giants and the NY Jets play their games in NJ. Actually, people that get hung up on the distinction that because you reside the west side of the Hudson River you are are not a New Yorker are not really familiar with the area. We are talking about two guys from the New York Metropolitan area; we are talking about two New Yorkers.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_metropolitan_area

I guess its those New York values again.

Ft Worth and Dallas are the same metro area (DFW), but try and tell someone from Ft Worth they are a Dallasite and youre liable to get knocked on your ass.

Sandoval is not exceptionally popular here in the state of Nevada. Scott Walker is a tool and an idiot. He claimed that ISIS is working with IRAN to spread terrorism.

Trump will definitely pick a woman. He is going to need to in order to stop the hemorrhaging of women voters in the GE. Trump will get a certain amount of white female Republican voters....but probably not as many as Romney got....he can probably prevent losing many if he selects a strong woman candidate.

VP picks hardly ever gain you anything. Sometimes they even lose you votes (Palin for example).

I'd say (if he is smart) Kasich.

That would salve the anti-Trump Republican establishment, gain him the critical State of Ohio, and also help with crossover Democrat and moderate/liberal Independents.

I not sure having one of those woman on the ticket as VP will have much sway with Democratic women voters, although it can't hurt much (except maybe costing Ohio).

I agree for all the reasons you gave and I have been touting Kasich as THE CHOICE for VP for a year now.

There's not a single, intelligent, self-respecting person who would run as Donald Trump's running mate. That being the case, the field of possibilities for Trump is virtually endless.

Most likely contenders would have to include Ivanka Trump. Any former or current Governor who would bastardize their principles in order to run with Trump isn't fit for the position, which makes the suggestion of Sarah Palin credible. The reality TV ticket - imagine the slogans, pins, hats and tees - with the Donald taking a cut of all sales to go to his favourite charity, himself.

Nope. The VP should not be chosen due to any of the PC correct reasons, but rather as the person most capable of doing the job.

I agree. But lets face it, no one in either party actually cares anymore whether someone is capable of doing the job or not. They only care about getting the person that best fits their ideology in. Otherwise both Trump and Hillary would have been thrown out a LONG time ago and wouldn't have the support that they do.

You appear to be salty that your hero JEB! got smoked. You don't seem to be taking the loss well after all these months.

My life goes on, pretty much unaffected, by America's choice for President. I'm too old for it to harm my personal future, so I don't sweat the consequences too much. It is, in my view, a disastrous primary season, particularly following a disastrous 8 years of the Obama Presidency, but America is strong and it will survive this stupidity as well.

How can you come to Washington without someone with legislative experience?
You are asking that question concerning a presidential candidate that has shown no interest in convention and politics?

Maybe...considering the ratings of congress and the dismal job both parties have done, thats just what the dr ordered.

How can you come to Washington without someone with legislative experience?

You are going to say Governors have no legislative experience...really? They are neck deep in the legislative process quite often.

There are times when you read things very well. This is not one of those times. Everyone has stupidly underestimated Trump over and over, the difference is some have learned from that mistake, you haven't.

I think damn near everyone has underrated Donald Trump, OC, especially the people who comprise (what is referred to as) the Republican establishment.

I just have enough confidence in the American public, however, to suppose that Donald Trump will never be elected president.

If I am wrong...I WILL submit a thread acknowledging how wrong I was on this particular point.

Frank, you are moving the goalposts. The comment you made was you believed he was stupid enough to name one of his daughters as VP. This isn't even about whether he makes it to President or not, my comment is about how totally damned stupid and condescending your comment was.

Show just a little respect where it is due, he has gotten this far hasn't he? That alone should prove he isn't stupid.

Frank, you are moving the goalposts. The comment you made was you believed he was stupid enough to name one of his daughters as VP.

I am NOT moving the goalposts...and I did not say anything about Donald Trump being stupid.

I did make a sarcastic remark about him choosing one of his daughters as his veep...but anyone who did not read that as sarcasm really is having trouble reading with comprehension.

This isn't even about whether he makes it to President or not, my comment is about how totally damned stupid and condescending your comment was.

My remark was not stupid. Sorry you have to resort to that kind of insult nonsense as often as you do, OC. I hope you eventually conquer the tendency.

Show just a little respect where it is due...

I am due some. Why don't you start showing me some?

...he has gotten this far hasn't he? That alone should prove he isn't stupid.

He has gotten this far...and I acknowledged that he has. I do not think he is stupid.

What is your problem?

I'm sticking to my prediction from two months ago, Cruz. With him ensuring the religious vote and Trump reeling in hillbillies, racists, disappearing middle-class's voters, and disenchanted blue-collar workers, the alliance will pragmatically excel.

But the inconceivable alliance transcends pragmatism. While Trump has the momentum and inevitably the nomination, the primaries sobered him enough to realize the difficulty involved in running a successful campaign and how crucial the party's support and resources are if he's to prevail in the largest spectacle of public life, the general elections. As for the GOP, it already resigned itself to the impossibility of removing Trump and got over its bruised pride to discern the role Trump can play in reversing what republicans perceive as 8 years of liberal tyranny and ensuring its future impossibility. Humbled by these realizations, both sides will sit at the negotiation table and the GOP will wager Cruz as its leash on Trump in exchange for its endorsement.

You are going to say Governors have no legislative experience...really? They are neck deep in the legislative process quite often.

No Washington legislative experience...actually knowing congressman, senators and lobbyists and understanding the informal ways things get done. Most tickets are a balance of administrative (governor's) and long-standing Washington insiders....

Frank, I hope to face you over a poker table at some point, you cant bluff worth a damn.

Which is the point. How's that been working out for us?

Mary Failin has been mentioned as a possible. Otherwise, well this is Trump, anything is possible.

Frank, I hope to face you over a poker table at some point, you cant bluff worth a damn.

I don't have to bluff you. I'm holding AA.

You mischaracterize what people say...and then argue against the mischaracterization. You do that frequently.

And you start with the insult nonsense at the drop of a hat.

In the meantime, I would love to face you over a poker table. I've limited my playing to on-line games recently...so I doubt it will happen.

Mary Failin has been mentioned as a possible. Otherwise, well this is Trump, anything is possible.

Exactly. We do not agree much, Clownboy...but I definitely agree with this. Which is the reason for my sarcastic comment of Trump choosing one of his daughters for veep. Obviously it is not going to happen...but anyone who bets that Trump will not do "X" is courting trouble.

Anything is possible with him.
