White Guilt - does it exist?

White Guilt - does it exist?

Yep. Absolutely. Almost exclusively in liberals. The more extreme the liberal, the deeper the guilt.

They tend to call it something else, though. The euphemisms will be varied; i.e. "tolerance", "compassion", "accommodation", and so on.

Granted, it seems, a lot of those more extreme liberals are folk that decided they were liberals because they support gay marriage and legalizing drugs (and/or hate rich people). But yeah, it does exist especially more towards the left sides of the graph, seemingly particularly with upper class and upper-middle class young white people.

For some unknown reason, yes, it most certainly does. And it's pathetic.

"White guilt" is a racist, collectivist invention. Period.

The idea of accepting blame/guilt based on the coloration of your epidermis is repulsive and absurd.

I guess it depends on what you mean by that. Is there something inherent in white guilt? No. Are there people, especially on the left, who are ashamed of being white? Yes.

It does, but luckily there is a cure--sunlight :)

Na huh....they dont tan, ever. They burn, then peel. Add more sun, repeat.

White guilt is the operative phrase, and weapon, for liberals and socialists.

They prey on the naive.

So being wealthy is something to be ashamed of?

yes but that isn't what i was saying at all

if you're white and from a poor background, you start to feel ashamed of your heritage, wishing you were black or the kid of illegals so you'd have an excuse when you start to mingle with the kids of the 1% who expect you to blow 100s at clubs, shopping, and spring break trips that their parents fund

the kind of place where someone whines they are "relative middle class" because the $2 million house in palo alto they came from isn't as ostentatious as their neighbors

I do fervently wish this country had never had slavery as any part of our history.

it's the part of every country's history. Only 10-20% of brits were freedmen when the magna carta declared the "birth of freedom" (but not really). The romans had slaves, native tribes had slaves. It's just that slavery ended in america at a disgracefully late point and only after much bloodshed, and then jim crow and the "black codes" tried to carry it onward another 100 years, and then war on crack for another 50+

still to this day 1 in 3 black men have been in jail, both the legacy and continuing efforts of the caste system

It's usually felt by higher income families and their offspring who feel sorry for the poor, but keep them at arms length, move to "good" neighborhoods to avoid having their children having to rub elbows with "those people".

They mourn the inequality of the poor as they have their wine and cheese parties behind the gates of their communities.

And who do they hire for gardeners and domestic help? Illegal Mexicans.

Guilt stops at their doorstep.

because everyone around me who is white comes from a wealthy background

Why in the world would you be ashamed of that? Why is success shameful? It's more shameful to be unsuccessful.

Well not around me. Not growing up, not in NJ, and not here in WA St...in Seattle proper, then in a suburb, and now in a rural area.

They are innocent of committing crimes?

well if you believe that, then #35 should explain it

so here we see how shame is a personal thing

They are innocent of committing crimes?

drug users are innocent in my view yes

i mean reagan's chief of state recently admitted the war on drugs was concocted solely to rid themselves of political enemies

drug users are innocent in my view yes

So what percentage of all those black males in prison were/are 'drug users?' And also, how does that percentage compare to white 'drug users?'

There's been a lot of discussion about the existence or non existence of "white privilege". How about "white guilt"? Do you believe there really is such a thing?

Attaching poll

Yes, I saw it exhibited by several pampered country club wives who used to brag to each other how they voted for Obama. My twit of a sister in law was one such person. I asked her why she voted for someone who is completely opposed to her way of life and wants to tax her (in reality my brother since she doesn't work) and she gushed what a good message it would send to elect a "black"

so here we see how shame is a personal thing

Well yes, I said that on the first page.

Well you havent attached it yet but....isnt that an individual thing? Can people speak for others and how they feel?

But I still dont understand the foundation for that shame.

Growing up, we were on the lower economic scale of middle class and all my relatives on one side of the family was rich. Lots of very well off families in the suburbs I grew up in. Never felt shame or guilt. Always wished we had more money but never wished I was another race as 'an excuse.'

I believe drug users will be held accountable for their actions by nature but I don't think others have the right to judge them for their use, unless it causes them to be directly affected. When I hire people, I tell them I don't care what you do out of here as long as you show up functional and capable for work.

So what percentage of all those black males in prison were/are 'drug users?' And also, how does that percentage compare to white 'drug users?'

i'm not here to do research for you. Go read "new jim crow" or something

....actually i will do so just to demonstrate how simple it is even with google:

"5 times as many whites are using drugs as blacks, yet blacks are sent to prison for drug offenses at 10 times the rate....they represent 12% of the total population of drug users yet account for 59% of the drug prisoners...they serve roughly as much time in prison for a drug use offense (58.7 months) as a white convict does for a violent crime (61 months)"

then there's the fact that 2/3 of ex cons re-offend so obviously rehabilitation totally fails, at a cost of $70 billion a year that could be spent instead on, i don't know, uplifting impoverished (and largely black) areas

How can this be? Reagan's justice dept intentionally criminalized 'black' drugs to a far greater extent. Also, they can't afford lawyers worth a damn and the juries are always white

listen to yourself. You're saying that black men are inherently criminal. That is the alternative to a system largely rigged against them.

As I've said before, white fragility is a far more serious problem than white guilt could ever hope to be.
