From what I'm seeing is that our conservatives really don't care about gun free zones. Whats the NRA have to say about not allowing guns at the convention, nothing. Guess the GOP really don't want guns around them. They yell about wanting guns in schools and churches and a gun in every pot. Just not their pot. Kinda of hypocritical.

They want to do this in Cleveland.

This is the only locale in Cleveland that would likely fit the needs of the convention based on size.

Rescheduling something like this in such a short time is an exorbitant cost and potential impossibility.

No issue with them requesting a change from the stadium ownership, but if they don't allow for it then it's frankly out of the GOP's hands.

An online petition signed by 22,000 people as of Saturday afternoon reads: "Though Ohio is an open carry state, which allows for the open carry of guns, the hosting venue-the Quicken Loans Arena-strictly forbids the carry of firearms on their premises."

Should guns be allowed at the GOP convention?

They want to put guns in Schools and Churches.

They are always talking about how bad and dangerous gun free zones are.

The GOP should tell the Quicken Loans Arena that if guns are not allowed then they will move the convention elsewhere.

Your thoughts.

Even if the arena would have been OK with open carry or weapons on it's grounds, the secret service would not allow it (out of security reasons) and from a standpoint of one political figure saying that if they deny him the nomination riots could break out, that would be really dangerous, armed angry people confronting equally angry armed people.

So no, not a good idea. Also, if corporations are people with people's rights (like pouring huge funds into elections) then the should be free to decide to not allow guns on their premises.

And the reason BLM supporters should not enjoy the same Constitutional rights as others, is what again?

Because they're not white. /snark

Those who have signed the petition seem to neglect the right we have to own property in this country.

That stadium is the property of the owners of the Browns, the GOP should feel like they are letting them be there, and the party better not push the stadium to change their gun policy, and if they tell them to change it, they should go tell the GOP to get lost. The Secret Service has a tough enough job already protecting Trump while he is spewing fire at the crowds, I expect he is the one currently most in danger, maybe some nut is angry at Kasich or something, hell every candidate is at risk.

Quicken Loans Arena is owned by the city, as far as I can tell. It is managed by Gateway Development Corp. It is leased to the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers are owned by Dan Gilbert, who is also the operator of Quicken Loans Arena. Gateway Development Corp also manages (I assume the city owns) Progressive Field. These two stadiums comprise the majority of the Gateway Sports and Entertainment Complex.

The Browns are owned in majority by Jimmy Haslam. FirstEnergy Stadium is owned by the city. Haslam and Gilbert have no obvious connections outside of them owning pro sports franchises in the same city.

I just wanted to clear up something that I found inaccurate.

This thread, or string of posts, is insanity upon itself ... Eight posters checking "OK" to carry guns into the convention arena.. We are, I think, a civilized people ..

Really, I thought they organized it, and had their hands pretty deep in it, that however was just an assumption, thank you.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dan Gilbert did help organize it, since he is the "operator" of the Q. He has also donated to a republican nominee (I believe it was Rubio). I was just trying to make sure it was known that the Browns and the Cavs have different owners and that the city owns the Q.

(I am a stickler for facts sometimes. Nothing upsets me more than someone reading something on the internet, telling it as truth, only to find out the source they read it from was wrong. Although a very minor point, ownership of buildings and pro sports franchises, it still needed to be addressed. Also, I am a Cleveland Browns fan and, as much as the owner deserves to be ridiculed for his inability to run a pro football team, I didn't think he should also be linked to Dan Gilbert, the Cavs, or Quicken Loans Arena)

Voted YES!

Strong 2A supporter.

And Democrat. LOL Let 'em carry! Let 'em all!

Meh, that ruckus has already been resolved by the Secret Service.

If you are/were not in the military, you should not be able to privately own a gun, IMO (because I interpret the 2'nd Amendment as STRICTLY referring to the Militia - you don't agree, I don't much care).

BUT if you do legally own a gun, you should be able to carry it concealed almost anywhere in America, IMO.

Wait what???

Trump, and/or others would be in DANGER if guns were allowed into Convention????

No no no no....

More guns = More safety

The more people that have guns inside that convention hall, the safer it gets for Trump and everybody else.

Let everyone entering that convention carry and/or conceal anything they want or chose.
AR-15's, AK's, small Derringers....machine guns, assault rifles, Desert Eagles, maximum capacity magazines duct taped together, ....you name it...

I don't see how anyone could view that as a problem, or potential problem.
