It's a belief, but an empty, idiotic one. But like all fanatical beliefs, you're not going to convince the fanatic that the belief is wrong because that simply isn't an option for the fanatic. They can believe they're going to a magic happy place in the sky all they want, when they're dead, they're just going to rot in the ground like everyone else. All the faith in the world doesn't make imaginary things real.

I agree, it could be perceived by the other 'nutters' as a deterrent.

From a Christian viewpoint, or from a secular viewpoint, it does not matter. You're just as dead killed by a man as by a woman. The Jihadis, however, are neither Christian nor secular. Their beliefs motivate them to give up their lives for their cause, expecting a reward in Heaven.
