Here's his proposal: https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/us-china-trade-reform

He's also proposed a 25-45% tariff at various points, although he's backed off that lately saying he won't need to impose it because his other policy changes would make China play ball.

Along with immigration, his China policy is one of the more radical changes Trump is looking to enact and I'm curious what people's opinion of it is.

Trade War, another Stupid idea by The Donald, he wouldn't do it anyway, it is rhetoric folks, good grief

Bring China to the bargaining table by immediately declaring it a currency manipulator.
We've done this before. Didnt really do much.

Protect American ingenuity and investment by forcing China to uphold intellectual property laws and stop their unfair and unlawful practice of forcing U.S. companies to share proprietary technology with Chinese competitors as a condition of entry to China’s market.
Essentially an empty statement....

Reclaim millions of American jobs and reviving American manufacturing by putting an end to China’s illegal export subsidies and lax labor and environmental standards. No more sweatshops or pollution havens stealing jobs from American workers.
Currently already doing this.. Also not all export subsidies are illegal..

Strengthen our negotiating position by lowering our corporate tax rate to keep American companies and jobs here at home, attacking our debt and deficit so China cannot use financial blackmail against us, and bolstering the U.S. military presence in the East and South China Seas to discourage Chinese adventurism.
Trump benefiting his own position... Real corporate tax rate is extremely low. I

The tariffs aren't needed if you re-negotiate proper trade agreements.
He is completely right that china cheats in a number of ways. YOu have to put up a trade deal which will prevent the cheating.
If they want the business they have to do it right. and there needs to be accountability and oversight and china needs to share in the cost of that.
One thing is for sure. No one else running will make any changes with the trade policy with china.

"I don't agree at all"... I simply do not believe that Trump can deliver on all of these promises as put forth on that page linked by the OP. Not only would the majority of those items require a complicit Congress to see through, the others suggest we have a new bargaining position just because Trump says so.

Not sure our economic model can handle a trade conflict at this juncture with China, and doing so would mean several large national employers would be rushing to find manufacturing elsewhere on the planet before returning to domestic labor markets.

It is one of those things that sounds nice in theory, but the practice would mean immediate headaches right here at home that could not be mitigated by other government action (including the items at the bottom of that page.)

Here's my plan to avoid starting a trade war: (let China start it instead).

POTUS Trumpmeister authorizes a policy to charge license fees on stolen technology, and purloined patents used in products exported to our trade partners.

In our world, If you want to use my widget, you must make a deal with me to pay me royalties. This is not a tariff, but a license fee since the Chinese merely forgot to pay manufacturer X and Y for a license. They can save face and shut up and pay up without admitting to be thieves, publically.

Let them squeal. If they refuse to pay, we collect it at the dock in whatever US friendly port they ship too. Remember, they have been ripping off the whole world, and they owe the whole world.

Now is the time. Their economy us in the crapper.

Who else has shown the spine to even attempt pushing back? Hillary? Bernie? Biden? Warren? Cruz? Rubio?Romney?

Have I left any "trade hawks" out?

Bush tried half heartedly, Obama did but the scope was too small, and revolved around "dumping". At the end of he day, they both failed at the task.

Then we can start renegotiating trade deals, and let them squeal.

Chinas economy is in worse shape than the usa's. They have a worse debt to gdp ratio than the usa, or even Greece. they couldn't afford to have soft embargo like that for long. they would have to deal.

There is only one thing I agree with in that entire rambling bit of nonsense:

Lower the corporate tax rate to 15%

Otherwise it's absurd, and totally inconceivable.

That won't address intellectual property theft and corporate espionage.

The lower tax rate will help, but China will just adjust their exchange rate to compensate for whatever competitive advantage we sought to gain.

He's almost entirely wrong. As usual, off the deep end.

We don't need to start a trade war with China, which will inevitably damage our economy and likely the world economy.

We should also continue to push back on things like currency manipulation.

Its a fake plan to protect IP profits, expand the MIC, nad lower CORP taxes.

It says nothing about good union jobs.
