Is Donald Trump lowering the bar of decorum in future political campaigns?

Decorum, such as it is, but still...

Nope. Takes a rare person to run for political office to begin with, and even rarer a person who can pull off the frank, rambling, stream of consciousness conversational style Trump uses. It's not something you can bottle or learn to do. It's just his way and it also happens to be just the right time for folks to like that.

This is the problem, presidents aren't, or shouldn't be, a string of formulated clones. The greats and the awful are distinct people, ones of a kind, who cannot be duplicated and fit their time. The mediocre are the ones trying to copy what went before.

Trump has turned the GOP into an international joke. Check that. Trump has exposed the GOP for what it was all along.

There aren't many who can pull off what he has managed to pull off successfully. My thinking is anyone trying to do it in the future won't be received too well.

You want to see a dirty, nasty, campaign?
Jackson versus Adams 1828 with nasty allegations about Jackson's wife and Adams' wife, like concubine and whore accusations type nasty.

Politics have gotten a lot more civil. Trump is very mild indeed compared to the things that occurred in the 1800's. Duels, fistfights in congress, dogs and cats living together! Utter chaos! ;)

I would actually agree with you there.

Lets take an example.

Lets say each Republican nominee is a fast food Restaurant.

Trump - Fast food Restaurant #1
Cruz - Fast food Restaurant #2
Rubio - Fast food Restaurant #3
Kasich - Fast food Restaurant #4
Carson - Fast food Restaurant #5

Now Trump's fast food restaurant has spent very little on tv/radio ads. Lets assume he has spent $216,000. Meanwhile, Rubio's fast food restaurant has spent $13 million, Cruz $10 million etc...

Now Rubio and Cruz have better advertisements. When they initially opened the traffic was through the roof. The only problem they had (which is a huge problem) is that the food tasted terrible. Trumps fast food restaurant, despite spending very little on advertisements, had the best tasting food. Even though Trump was spending little on ads, he was still promoting the restaurant through different (albeit less expensive avenues).

Trump is not doing anything extraordinary but his message is resonating with a lot of Americans!

I believe he is, and not for the good.

I disagree. He's loud, glitzy, vain, outspoken, perhaps rascist, and a true master of manipulating a manipulated Mass Media. As a Media insider and showman he has all the tools to amplify his personal presence and he does. He gets hundreds of millions of dollars worth of free TV time with his entertaining style and since the Nation is manipulated with that Mass Media, many are putty in the Master's hands. I like him better than any of the other Republican candidates and ex-candidates. He pitches to the common man and guess who the voter is? Strike one for Trump's side. Three strikes and the Republicans will have to have a coronation for the Donald, don't ya' know?

Are you suggesting that regressing back to that atmosphere would be acceptable?

lol

Obama: Vote for me - I'm black.
Clinton: Vote for me - I'm female.

Yeah . . . I think all of politics has exposed itself for simpleton banality. I can't bring myself to like any of them. Trump fits right in.

Are you suggesting that regressing back to that atmosphere would be acceptable?

No, I'm suggesting Trump is crazy sells toothpaste....or at least the advertising on the news.

I don't recall him saying anything of the sort. Though, that would have been one campaign promise he couldn't have gone back on.

That ship sailed some time ago. He hasn't lowered anything.

Well people like that toothpaste. Trump won more hispanic votes in Nevada than the two Cubans - Cruz and Rubio.

Trump also won the mormon vote which is odd...

Figures he'd win the funny underwear crowd.

Mocking religious slur aside, how do you figure that? Why would you think that Trump would score the LDS vote?

Oh please. If you knew about the dirty politics the GOP played here in Nevada in '08 and '12 you'd never mention "decorum" and "politics" in the same breath without also including "lack of".

Anyone stupid enough to be a Mormon is stupid enough to vote for Donny. Perhaps they confuse him with Donny Mormon.

Thank you for your correction of the first thought.

The GOP has turned the GOP into an international joke.

Why anyone wants the GOP to have total control of our government...when it shows it cannot even run the GOP in any kind of reasonable way, is beyond me.

Because the press will hold the GOP a hell of a lot more accountable than they do democrats. Why do you hate accountable government?

Not sure what you are saying here? It sounds as though you had something in mind...but then lost the thought as you were typing the sentence.

Ok Frank, do you feel the press holds democrats or republicans more accountable?

2nd ok Frank, it was a joke.

Voted yes, but really political decorum has been all over the map going back to this nation's founding. Go look at copies of old campaign media coverage from the period post the Great Depression to get a feel for what I am talking about. It was dirty and ugly, accusations were all over the place, and honestly some of it was slanderous. We have had worse periods in this nation where campaign style, intentions, and rhetoric was bad. Really bad. Trump is lowering the bar for recent times, but over all of our history he may not be the worst.
