I remember Nixon, but not quite old enough for LBJ.

I have read, though, from many sources, that LBJ was very rude and crude.

And let me tell you, if the press then were as national and everywhere as they are today you'd have seen LBJ at campaign rallies and small venues and Trump wouldn't seem near the hothead in comparison.

Decorum, such as it is, but still...

You tried this comparison before, didn't work for you then, not working for you now. References like this, only funny the first time.

Donald Trump is lowering the decorum standards of the human race.

At this point in the process that thought is a bit delusional. Unlike Romney who was also mega rich, he's not running on OPM (other people's money).

Is it though? Think about it. Trump is a household name. He has sold books and all kinds of stuff. The closer be gets, the more money he stands to make.

He could be but mostly in private. He was forgiven then for those 'private' moments that somebody leaked, i.e. when a reporter recorded him on Air Force One talking about his Great Society initiative: "I’ll have those niggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years.” Can you imagine the outrage if people knew any popular figure said something like that these days? The Donald would never say anything like that. Not classy. Pretty racist. And using a word all of us find offensive. But no doubt about it, that was one of the goals and he said it plainly and without mincing words. Every politician has probably had a moment like that. I still remember that Cheney dropping the F bomb made front page news for a couple of days.

So what if politicians were required to say exactly what they were thinking in plain English? What if they had to tell the truth about what they were thinking? Would they be any different than the Donald who does that?

In private, yes. But even he knew being so in public wasn't cool.

He is lining his own pockets, skillfully so. He is a business man after all.

Well, this is America...;)

and Trump, an American business man..

Yes, he's an international brand, and trading with the world -- Americans don't have a problem with... So long as the profits, the success, the increased standard of living are seen here at home.

“After all, the chief business of the American people is business. They are profoundly concerned with producing, buying, selling, investing and prospering in the world. I am strongly of the opinion that the great majority of people will always find these the moving impulses of our life.” -- Coolidge

This is where Trump's success lies.

I say yes but that comes with the condition that it's simply part of a trend.

During LBJ's lifetime quite a bit of a candidate's day were still private, that's no longer the case. There is absolutely no privacy for candidates now. 24/7/365 coverage. We even know what underwear Romney wore.

Trump has turned the GOP into an international joke. Check that. Trump has exposed the GOP for what it was all along.

Thank you for your many anti-Trump posts. I find them to be influential and, in light of what you say, I'm starting to think that Trump could be a good choice.

Right. Too many people with cell phones listening in to people in the next room, that type of thing. That was Romney's whole "47%" scenario, IIRC.

But then some of it, too, is the whole "Got'cha!" mentality. Just compare Kennedy's affairs and the media covering for him vs Clinton's and the media not.

Happy to help.

Yes, profit is good. Companies that do not make profits cease trading and lots of people lose their jobs.

Was it Adam Smith who said something like "No man is so innocently employed as when he is making money"?

LOL Reagan secretly traded arms for hostages with Iran for real and he is still a God in many Republicans minds.

Yeah, and Hillary probably has 20 different scandals over the last 25 years, BEFORE EVEN GOING INTO OFFICE.

But he was a racist bigot just the same, private or public. And I have not seen a single instance in which I thought Trump was racist in any way.

My argument isn't meant to defend Donald Trump. But if we are going to hang him, let's hang him for crimes he actually commits and not what the establishment or the left or the media or anybody else wants to hang on him.

Sorry but I was serious about that. But remember, I am part of the anti-political correctness police so I define racism very differently than do those on the left. And based on how he expresses himself, I'm pretty sure the Donald does too.
