Is Bernie Sanders a coward?

Is Bernie Sanders a coward?

He WON'T command others to fight in a war he conscientiously objects to.

So he will pick and choose ? If he is the Commander in Chief he has no choice but to command others to do what he was too dam afraid to do .

Of course he will pick and choose. Every President decides when to use military force. He refused to fight in what he felt was an unjust war. He would only be a hypocrite if he sent people to fight in a war he felt was unjust.

I don't know if Bernie Sanders is a coward or not, (I don't know the man personally) but his refusal to provide documented details on how he's going furnish free college, free health care, etc, for all Americans, looks more like a manipulative scheme to attain the White House. Sanders sounds more like the Pied Piper with millions of impressionable minds following him. How is Sanders going to pay for this utopian agenda of his?

I am sure you spent hours researching this.

You're making several assumptions here.
Firstly, that he conscientiously objected to serving because he was afraid.
Secondly, that he would command others to go to war for the same reasons he refused.

Perhaps you could support those two assumptions in some way?

Uh, yes? Of course a president should pick and choose which wars we go to. Do you think he should have us get involved in every war no matter what? Sanders saw that it was unjust to draft Americans to be sent to fight a civil war in south east asia that had nothing to do with protecting America, so he APPLIED for conscientious objector status. Before the board was even able to make a decision he became too old to draft. He did everything 100% legally.

Now, if you want to see an actual coward draft dodger who avoided service in Vietnam, look no further than George W. Bush.

The fact that you wouldn't even spend 2 seconds to google this makes you look incredibly lazy and even more uninformed. At least visit his website and read his proposals before you start complaining on internet forums.

No , just the one you are too afraid to fight in, that's all !!!

Do you think Vietnam was a just war? If Vietnam part II were happening tomorrow would you go?

Hypothetically, supposing Sanders wins the WH? I don't believe Paul Ryan will even bring Sanders' bill to the floor; the Republicans are still trying to repeal the ObamaCare! I pay enough taxes as it is and do not fancy paying more. If Sanders were to become president then there would indeed be a revolution which will replace our Capitalist Republic with a Socialist Republic. Extreme Socialism is Communism and if we continue down this Socialist Democratic road, we might end up with the system Karl Marx advocated. BTW,if Sanders does get the nomination, the Republicans will skewer him alive, and he will never attain the goal of the WH and the Dem Party will lose for the next two elections.
I seriously doubt he could win the Whitehouse, but then dumber things have happened so it should not come as a surprise that he Could win it. Oh there would be a Revolution alright but it would be one that would end up with the break up of the USA into several small Nations. As I always say; Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst.

No offense, but if I have to explain why, I doubt you will understand.

That's a cop out. if you can't intellectually articulate your reasoning for your musings, perhaps it best not utter them then. Trying to paint the one who asks you to be specific as intellectually incapable of understanding your position which was not explained, is a rather dismal retort in debate.

I actually don't think taking "Conscientious Objector" status is necessarily "cowardly." It at least shows a willingness to go through the proper channels, rather than simply dodging the draft outright, and fleeing for Canada.

I don't think most are cowards at all. Though if you claim to be a pacifist, get 2 defferments, then apply for consientious objector to run the clock out, then get elected and vote to send other sons and daughters to war, you may just very well be a cowardly sod.

You can support one action and not another. There was no draft for Kosovo.

Not if you are a conscientious objector according to US law, not if you are a pacifist by it's very definition. Has nothing to do with the draft, it has to do with the proclaimed reasons why he didn't want to go.

I have to disagree. You should be able to determine your support with each situation.

Yes you should, but that makes you neither a pacifist, or a conscientious objector.

in reality, he had 3 deferments, one for college, 2 for marriage, then the 3rd he applied for Conscientious objector status, knowing the clock would run out and he would age out by the time it was finally rejected.

So by this definition alone, one could call him a coward.

I take special exception that he chose not to go and someone else went in his place, to then become a career politician who supports most democrat wars with little reservation.

Not if Commie Bernie was in charge !!!

He refused to serve = COWARD ! Do you actually think if that coward was our commander in Chief Countries like China , N Korea , Iran ,Pakistan would walk all over us . He would be 100 times worst than the peanut farmer !!!

I will repeat.
You're assuming that he conscientiously objected to serving in the military during the Vietnam war because he was afraid.

What proof do you have of this?

To be clear, conscientious objection =/= cowardice.
