Is Iowa the beginning of the end of Donald Trump?

I appreciate that many of us have killed off Trump with greater frequency than the Terminator, but.....

Unless you think he can actually win the WH, at some point there will be a time that we can declare the beginning of the end...

His inability to capture Iowa wasn't a surprise, since he really didn't build a ground organization an Iowa. Perhaps that was his arrogance, is naivete, his frugality or simply never expected to make it this far....

I, for one, was impressed with his concession speech. I thought he was learning the art of politics.... but he couldn't let it go. The very next day we get a call of foul (blaming it on the refs), which appears a bit childish. Now that we are turning the corner to serious politics, don't you think people we dismiss him as playtime is over?

Then, we learn yesterday that in the last PPP poll, Trump's national "lead" fell by over nine points, putting him in a statistical tie with Cruz and Rubio. To me, this somewhat supports the notion that now that we are getting serious people are dismissing Trump.

The next question is, if and when Trump is marginalized, how will he react?

Iowa is the beginning of the end for Donald Trump

There was no beginning.

Trump never had a chance.

Trump was never in the race to win the White House. He's already won what he wanted, which was notoriety.

His legacy will still be a small lunatic fringe who will believe he could have saved the nation and "make America great again", but then, there are always some people who will believe anything.

How many times was Trump given up for dead, even while in first place in the polls?

I voted yes, but the reality is Trump only appeals to a specific sector of voters and for him to pull in a large number of new voters to support him were always going to be slim to none. I would word it more of a sign that Trump is no where nearly as popular as He likes to claim, otherwise his numbers would have been steadily growing and they have not and they will not. He might win a couple of NE states and maybe a handful of Midwestern states but over all I doubt he can actually compete against his rivals. In the end Trump will either say it is all a huge Conspiracy, he already has suggested the others are cheating and say he gave it his best and drop out or he will run as an Independent because either he believes his own propaganda or he wants to ensure those that beat him, the Repubs, lose the general election as some sort of childish pay back. I would suggest that he will Not be a Good Loser and things will get ugly before he is out of the race for good.

I hate polls that try to put words in people's mouths. A simple Yes/No/Other...and why...poll would have sufficed.

I don't think this is the beginning of the end for Trump, but not for any of the reasons given in the choices, so I didn't respond to the poll.

That was obvious. He rode this puppy as far as his trolling would carry, but he was never a serious candidate. Serious candidates do not no-show debates over a dispute with the moderator. A GOP candidate and a Fox News moderator no less. That's just crazy.

Think of it too. What was his platform? Cruz said it best last night. Trump brings nothing to the table except insults.

I argued that Trump attacking McCain as not-a-real-hero would hurt him
I argued that Trump attacking Megyn Kelly would hurt him
I argued that Trump's comments about Carson, mocking conversion, and his background, would hurt him specifically with Iowa evangelicals.

I think that looking like a poor loser (and a whiny loser) hurts him now.

But I have learned my lessons making predictions that are predicated on "now the voters will make rational decisions, and..."

Worth noting - the Trump Response, which is that his second place Iowa placing should go down as one of the greatest political victories in history, is not a poll option.

So who is the lunatic fringe that thinks Hillary will make America great again?

I've said this before the way to beat trump to is to openly mock him. He's exceptionally thin skinned and will over react. That said his opponent s are too weak to upset him. Cruz is deeply unlikeable probably more so than any other GOP candidate in modern history. Rubio is the proverbial lightweight (Santorum in his endorsement couldn't name a single accomplishment). He talks urgently but emptily. Trump will win the nomination but the GOP will lose the election accross the board.

We are pretty good and will remain so under Hillary. We never have been great and never will be.

Don't bet on it. Hillary is as corrupt as the century is long. Her administration would be nothing but scandals from the beginning to the end.

How many times was Trump given up for dead, even while in first place in the polls?

You are correct. But unless he is actually elected President, at one point the "given up for dead" people will be correct. Kind of the clock is right twice a day theory.

Yes... I should have included "He was never serious about running for president in the first place" in the poll. I was in the camp for a long time and then thought maybe the guy was serious after all (in his mind he was serious about it)..

Lord knows we don't need another Reagan.

I'd even take this guy over Cankles...

Yeah, you've been floating that little theory of yours since the beginning. Too bad you've been proven wrong at every turn.

Btw, NH is still looking like a solid lock for Trump. I will admit I didn't expect Rubio would do better than Cruz in NH and he's currently tied or a little ahead in polls there. But still Trump holds a commanding lead in the polls.

I voted "Yes" mainly because I want it to be true. Ugh.

It's way way way too early to be writing any of the top 3 (Trump, Cruz, Rubio) off.

Yeah. This has been a most interesting primary with everyone corronating the poll leaders and the winners of Iowa. History shows those conclusions are way too premature.

I'm going to wait and see how some other states pan out. Now if he loses New Hampshire or South Carolina...
