Internet Addiction Quiz - Psych Central

Ok, it's for internet addiction, not just DP, but some of those questions were like .

I scored an 18 (honestly I was expecting worse).

Here's what the numbers mean:

30 & up - 'Net addiction likely
20 - 29 - 'Net addiction possible
15 - 19 - Borderline 'Net addiction
0 - 14 - No 'Net addiction

Got an 8.

But I'm going to try the quiz 20 more times until I get a zero.

Got a 14.

I actually cut down my internet usage during the stretch of summer 2015. I'm very happy I did that.

I scored 24 - net addiction possible.

That was kind of odd for me to figure out because the Internet is a close part of my work, now. The DP forum and the occasional music video on Youtube is pretty much all I do free-time wise. Yet . . . sometimes my business related content has procrastination components - like work related forums and social media (which I must do - but sometimes it's all I do).

So the gray line of 'work' and 'fun' cause problems. If I wasn't working (like doing marketing and research) would I be online? Most likely - I'd be a forum bum.

#18 made me laugh out loud:
18. Do you choose to spend more time online over going out with others?

What others? Every day I see my husband and kids and spend time with them . . . those are the only others in my life I keep after. Other family who live in my state happen a few times a year. But that wouldn't change even if I had less internet - I just don't like the idea of having friends as an adult.

And my husband complains sometimes - because he'd rather I spend 5 or 6 hours a night watching TV with him because that's his addiction . . . so that's when I hear complaints about it.

Otherwise - I work during the day when the kids are at school, mostly.

I got a 12, i figured it would be higher

16. I definitely spend too much time on the internet but it doesn't really affect my life negatively. It steals away time from other pastimes I would like to do, like reading more books or excercising more, but I don't let it interfere with my business or family. I don't think about the internet when I am not using the internet. But once I get on it I am usually on it longer than I had planned.

Why's that (if you want to say)?

You scored a total of 8. Looks like I'm ok. :)

Because friend are guaranteed drama and demand consideration and special focus sometimes - and I'm just too old and too busy for it. I have to be able to put my career and family first and that just doesn't congeal with friendships.

But then ... lately I've run into a problem of my career path being adult-entertainment related. I cannot honestly tell anyone in my tiny little southern redneck town that I write smut and help script porn movies . . . come on. ROFL - I can see it making national headlines. "Town is rocked when they find out oldest living resident supported the local animal shelter with donations made by being a pornographer." - all the giggle snorts in the world for that.

So - public life via open friendships . . . or cultivated acquaintances and a private career?

I prever my private career and cultivated acquaintances.

My friends are super important to me but I can see how having a spouse and kids could make it tough to have time for much else.

got a score of 9

a dozen years ago that would have been much much higher but I have reformed in my old age

Wait a minute, when did pornos get back to having scripts? Are you the new...what was that guy's name? Kirby something or other.

rofl

See - in order for me to have a real life friend they'd have to be so okay with what I do it doesn't even become a question or a give-a-damn. Like being the delivery guy for Ideal Bread. Who cares? No one.

And most certainly they wouldn't ever want to read my stuff! Dear god - my sister found out my old pen name and read my smut blog when it was in its infancy and I died a thousand deaths . . . I had to reinvent myself online just to get over the pure horror of it. I'd be the same with anyone else - nope, not reading it you aren't.

Umm - I do realize how odd that is. I prefer my smut career over anything else, just about.

Typical questions for any "addiction" I see. IMO, the web is the perfect time suck. So, if you are a procrastinator or someone who just likes to waste time instead of actually doing things, then your score will be high. I suspect mine would be off the charts if I ever got around to taking the quiz. :)

Good morning, Lutherf. :2wave:

  I was really curious to see my score on this quiz! I got a 14 - no internet addiction! Whew! It just takes so much time to read breaking stories on Yahoo about the 2016 election; then I gotta read Dear Abby to see who has problems in their life; checking to see how much money I'm losing in the stock market; play a game or two of Solitaire; get the weather forecast; check my e-mails; then at last I can finally then join my friends on DP! I'm surprised sometimes that I get any housework done at all, but I'm very happy to learn I'm not addicted! :lamo:

Oh yeah, solitaire is bad!!

My problem is that I tend to "reward" myself at work with little doses of internet. I'll get a task done and then hop on line to see if the world has changed in the 10 minutes it took me to get that account reconciled. That has definitely resulted in a few three or four hour jobs taking all day. However, I still manage to meet my deadlines. I never got into social media so that's just not a factor but on a Saturday I am prone to getting more involved than I should in some computer game. I also noticed that when I was in Italy over the summer I barely missed the internet and television. If there's things to do and people to see I would MUCH rather do that than sit at a keyboard.

You scored a total of 8

No Internet addiction

Hah I was worried but the question indicate I got a score of 5.

I got a 5, which is coincidentally my mental age as well. Laugh if you want, but at my age it's no small feat to maintain that mental age. There are pressures - relentless pressures - for me to act my age. So far, I've successfully resisted.

Same here actually, when I was growing up, the amount of time I'd spend online, MSN Messenger, AIM, Whistlestopper, gaming was just obscene.

I'm actually really good now, even now that I've picked up SWTOR again.

If I have to work, I play a little, post a little here, and then shut it down to get adequate sleep to be effective.

I dont need to even take the quiz. Yes, I am addicted.

I scored 20, but I suspect that my score could be higher or lower at different times of the year. When I have certain projects, travel times, etc. going on, I'm somewhat less likely to get online or even check my email. Usually emails are from family (which aren't everyday), sometimes business, or medical stuff, or anticipated emails. So I don't rush to check my email unless I have a specific reason.

Isn't getting old great? :mrgreen::cool:
