Because I had fun with the last poll...
If we have another Civil War (hopefully never) what will spark the flames?

The usual things - ignorance and fear ...which generate hatred. We need yet another leader of peace and reason ..lets hope that the Trump insanity abates and that he and his kind just go away.

A mixture of the first four at the top.

You might as well ask; "What issue do you care most about". That is likely how most will answer.

I'll try not to fall into that trap. I can conceive of two issues that would spark an actual war. Let's start with the obvious. Gun rights. Really, any rights, but gun rights are the most likely. There is a deep divide and legislation that crosses a line will probably lead to violence. Violence will lead to disproportionate retaliation. Retaliation will lead to a more organized opposition and you might actually see states supporting rebels against the federal government. As I said, any rights could lead to this. The black lives matter movement could conceivably grow to that proportion if there is a misstep. I doubt it, but it is conceivable.

But, I think the most likely internal war will be over water. There have been countless lawsuits between states over rivers and dams. Especially between mountain states and lower states. If Colorado were to shut down the Arkansas river (as an example) you might see the Kansas National Guard bombing a dam to help the farmers down stream. Granted, it would take quite a bit more angst than we have today for that point to be reached. So this isn't something that will happen in 2016 or even in the next 10 years. But, it is conceivable.

The increasing polarization of the gun loving far right angry white folk and the alternate reality that they insist upon living in at the expense of the vast majority of Americans.

Talk about ignorance and fear...

Because Obama has generated so much peace and tranquility? :lamo

Tough question, but it seems we are headed for real disaster from the "haves and have nots." We are already seeing some of the effects of that lack of social and economic cohesion. The problem is our flavor of that fight will also involve the government, mainly because it is easy to argue we have seen the realized merger of a modern day wealth based aristocracy with a modern day government based aristocracy.

The victim card and the race card in one sentence...

Hadn't thought of the second one but that does make sense. I think the federal gov't would step in before that happened though.

He claims to be a campaign worker of some sort. I think this sentence should serve as proof that he's being truthful.

They would. But say one state had a blue gov and the other a red. If the perception was that a political retaliation was the reason for the interference, hot heads might prevail. Again, I'm not saying this is likely. Just an outside possibility. I really really doubt there is a civil war unless people, a lot of people, feel that there is no other recourse. That would mean that there is no possibility of voting for people that would reverse over reaches of any kind. We just aren't even close to that.

The first answer that came into my mind before I even read the choices was class warfare, so I selected "the haves vs. the have nots".

But I almost selected the Jaguars.

I picked the haves/haves nots when (not if) Austerity Day arrives. We will eventually have to stop promising more government benefits than we dare try to fund by taxation. One can only borrow their way to prosperity for so long.

Once we have established that folks are owed (entitled to?) a "fair share" of the wealth/income of others then it is only a matter of arguing over the delivery systems (mechanisms?) used.

It is sad that you opt to see the truth in that skewed fashion.

I think you left out a big one.

We have 2 very large, hard headed, egotistical, hate filled groups in this country that get more and more angry and close minded each year. Democrats and Republicans.

There won't be another Civil War in the USA. IOW: The South will not rise again!

"Fair share" should mean whatever portion an ordinary individual should be willing to work for, assuming the playing field can be leveled. I only need to look at my own siblings to show an example. 2 of us went to school, got good jobs, worked hard, and did that over a long period of time. The others chose to quit school around 9th grade, took menial jobs, blew their wages on smoking and drinking, and were more or less slothful. When the inevitable rainy day happened, they tried to turn to those of us who actually saved some money. Sorry, I don't lend money to pay their gambling debts or bail them out of jail for passing bad checks.
Being lucky enough to be born in the USA does not entitle any of us to anything. We should be taking advantage of existing opportunities instead of wishing for wealth we did nothing to deserve.

I voted for Philatelists against Numismatists.

The tensions have been brewing since at least 1840.

That (bolded above) is my point - folks will think little (nothing?) of breaking the law if they feel entitled. Imagine what would happen if you did support your lazy siblings for quite a while and then one day, out of the blue, simply told them no more hand outs. I would virtually guarantee that a (quite possibly violent?) confrontation would occur at that point.

Freakin' amazing, ain't it?

And we all know who'll win that battle. ;)
