Why do so many Republicans like Trump?

Why do so many Republicans support Trump?

I am not a Trump supporter, so I can only answer as to what polling suggests.

Best I can describe but at high level... Trump is obtaining support because of that outsider no rules mentality, does not need corporate money with strings, and all with an American exeptionalism and xenophobic tone that resonates with a significant portion of the Republican base. Security over Constitutionality, Interventionism over lessons learned, warfare with many. Arguably, we are talking about older, white, social conservative, probably southeastern, and rural voter who feels disconnected from both DC overall and establishment Republican politics.

I've said before that if it ends up being Trump vs. Hillary, we will see it being 1950s thinking vs. moderate but modern liberalism.

It's already been explained in virtually every Trump thread thus far and the poll options are just an invite to insult.

Explain your answer, please.
Whomever the Republican nominee is, they will have one primary feature,
They are not Hillary!
I would not be happy if Trump were the nominee, but again,
He is not Hillary!

That's true, he's not Hillary. Hillary doesn't want to create a religious test for entry into the country, "shut down" the internet, deport eleven million people, kill the families of terrorists, she isn't a birther or vehemently racist and she doesn't fantasize sexually about her progeny. And unlike Trump she occasionally tells the truth.

Well said!

Putin is a monster who does and says whatever he wants and doesn't care about the rule of law, civil liberties or the general risk of chaos. Trump supporters recognize this as a return to the "savage state" and want that for themselves, but only insofar as they are at the top of the food chain in such a scenario.

She'll sell you out. Your job will go to a foreigner and you will live out your remaining years in destitution with a small check from a totalitarian government.

Just kidding, it will probably be fine ;)

Good point. I'll vote for a racist, fascist, incest-fantasizing, narcissistic lying maniac instead.

I don't think these supporters are real republicans.

A real republican is normally concerned about things that Trump is not really concerned about --

1 - more tax cuts for the rich
2 - stimulating the economy by more oil drilling everywhere
3 - stimulating business profits by raping the land and rolling back regulation
4 - anti Roe V. Wade
5 - pro Church (mostly Protestant)
6 - paying lip service to the NRA while not actually accomplishing anything to benefit gun rights other than opposition to more gun control
7 - deficits to fund more military/industrial spending
8 - pro war
9 - anti Russia
10 - anti China
11 - anti fast track immigration
12 - anti regulation

Trump is only into a few of those things.

That's how Cruz summarized the GOP Debate last night in one of his final statements as well. Good call.

and they believe he's one of them there is the key phrase . He's not of course ,but it is almost impossible to convince Trump supporters that he has more in common with Bernie Sanders and Hillary than the typical conservative Republican.

A sizable part of the Republican electorate are racist xenophobes who hate government. He's perfect for them.

Personally I haven't run into many Republicans who support Trump though as the only viable challenge to Hillary Clinton, they would vote for him. Trump supporters seem to be disaffected Republicans, Democrats, and Independents who no longer trust the permanent political class and will go with whomever is the opposite to that.

I would say that many of them believe that Trump is saying the things they feel. Because of Anti-American politicians and anti-Americans in the media who suck on the testicles of the pro-illegal alien lobby they inadvertently painted Trump as a great patriotic American who will crack down on illegal immigration. That is what they did the moment they tried to make it seem as though Trump was talking **** about Mexicans instead of just those here illegally from Mexico. I do not think many of them care about the other things Trump supports. One only has to look at what Ann Coulter said regarding Trump to see that is true,as long as he cracks down down on illegal immigration they don't really care what else he does.

While I may strongly disagree with your personal political views (gag!), your last few sentences do have a point, in that many of his followers may not give a crap about what he says, as long as he's strongly against illegal aliens, or as long as he's against Muslims, or as long as he's against any other particular demographic that's not a WASP.

And so it's no surprise that this strongest supporters are less-educated whites.

Well we know he is not a rave fave with Latinos and Muslims

Not to mention Hillary has ruled out using American ground troops in fighting ISIS. That will be a key difference next year.

NORTH CHARLESTON
Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton said Wednesday it would not be “smart, effective or appropriate” to send U.S. combat troops overseas to fight Islamic State terrorists.
