thanks for voting. I hope you dont ask what I mean!!!!!

Too vague to possibly answer. Most have varying definitions and applications of the term, some of them downright stupid.

the OTHER option works for you

Not if it's used as a crutch or a weapon.

Politically correct is just plain stupid BUT that doesn't mean you should be allowed to say anything you want without any repercussion. Too many times politically correct happens when someone says something and then has to lie about it later saying, "this is what I really meant" or they just lied in the first place so that they could be politically correct. Trump is doing so well because the public in general is sick of politicians not answering tough questions until they run things by their handlers first just so they can make sure what they say is politically correct.

It is bound to happen, as there is both wide interpretation of what is PC as well as wide degree of being PC.

That said, I would rather speak frankly about some issue instead of appealing to others from within PC confines.

I was wondering.

this term is used by most of you but many of you still ask what I mean by PC.:2razz:.you guys need to learn your first languages:lol:

The problem that I see with political correctness is that far too often it is used as a way to say [insert favorite slur] in no less than twenty-five words.

At best it's a sad, pathetic attempt to find language that does not offend anyone because Americans have become a bunch of over sensitive crybabies.

Sort of.

What PC really becomes is a series of unwritten rule censorship efforts as a means to control. It all boils down to conformity, a belief that some group should have the ability to control language and its use as to not have one offend the sensibilities of someone else. So you end up with eliminated, or at least restricted, thought and expression on some issue because of the will of someone else acting as a censor.

It is absurd, and it is borderline fascism (when defined as social intolerance.)

Yep.

When the penalty for expressing anything resembling an original thought involves ostracism or worse, the demand for utter conformity is fascist in nature, even if falling short of the exact meaning of the term in the political sense.

When I lived in Berkeley in the 80s, the running joke had to do with the desire to be a disabled black lesbian so we, too, could be above reproach. oops, make that differently abled lesbian of color. I forgot to update. What started out as a desire to not offend has morphed into a rigid system in the years since -- one that controls political expression as well as personal, and is every bit as lock-step as the most rigid religious fundamentalism of the right.

You do, just not fluently. You get by okay, but you do make an awful lot of mistakes, e.g. "I do not know english either!!!!"

sorry I can't understand you

Anybody unclear on the nation-destroying dangers of any political faction's manipulation of public opinion or behaviors MUST read George Orwell's masterpiece, "1984".

It's all there, and under both of the latest idiotic Republican and Democrat regimes, we've been going headlong down the road that Orwell warned us all about.

Why the manipulation? Pay particular attention to the portion of the story called, "The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism" -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Theory_and_Practice_of_Oligarchical_Collectivism
