Who would you vote for, if you had to choose?
Nightmares don't come much worse.
Who would you vote for, if you had to choose?
Allow me to throw this one at you CJ.
Since we're in "imagine" mode, there are only the three candidates mentioned in the OP.
Carson, who I like a lot, just isn't the right guy for the job. That leaves Hilary, and Trump.
Hilary isn't running for President, her ego and narcissism is. She, IMO, would be a true disaster for the US.
Trump, no question, is about Trump. It seems to me, he would be all about the deal, and the deal is what is best for business. Whether he lined his pockets or not, his ego would be all in for whatever it took to benefit the US, and hence, his business.
I find that much more palatable than the prospect of a shrill angry Hilary storming around the globe as clueless and unprepared as her predecessor.
Good afternoon Ocean,
You're presuming that Trump has staying power for the fight through to next August/September or whenever the Republican convention is held. I think he'll be long gone out of the race by then. The Presidency holds nothing for him other than the title and 4 years, let alone the prospect of 8 years without any ability to self-promote and make personal deals and personal wealth would kill the man. I don't think there's any way he really wants the job. He's working his book and working his brand - very cheaply, I'd add, since the media is all in the bag hoping he'd win the Republican nod because it would be good for business and he'd never have a hope in hell of beating Clinton.
There's nothing in Trump's business empire that's anyway related to foreign investment or trade or business interests - he's a real estate investor/speculator. He buys and flips property on a grand scale and generally does very well at it. It's why he supports expropriations, hoping to buy local politicians for the benefit of securing valued property cheaply to develop. There's nothing in the White House or the Executive Branch that would benefit his brand or his ambitions. The only "business" he tried to build and promote was his casinos and they were a colossal failure.
I expect Trump to continue to drop in the polls and sometime following South Carolina, before the real money has to be spent on organization and paid advertising for the big primaries and Super Tuesday type events, Trump will beg out of the race, his business interests needing his expertise and he lacks the time to commit to both. It will be his usual graceless way of losing while in his own mind he'll think he came across as noble.
He's an act - a short run off-Broadway show with a best before date.
He'll be gone and Carson is self-imploding by the day and will be gone soon too. Serious people in the Republican party will be looking at who's left and making the rational, reasoned decisions.
This poll is just an expression of Democrat hopes and dreams for an easy path for Hillary to the White House.
I actually agree with you, and that really surprises me.
But I'd like to ask though, just who does a seemingly intelligent Conservative root for when you are against the 2 front runners?
I'd have to assume you are equally against Fiorina, maybe even more so.
You do not seem like a whacko or psychotic so I know you are not a Cruz supporter.
Bush and Christie might be too moderate for you, although Christie has proven to be a bit more of a sell out than a moderate.
You do not seem like the religious fanatic type, I am ruling out Huckabee.
Rubio has no real position of his own and will say whatever his base wants to hear. I do not think you are that shallow.
Paul can't decide if he is a Libertarian like his father, or a crazed tea party type. But I can't rule him out for you.
This only leaves Kasich, who I know so little about that I can't say anything good or bad about the guy.
So am I even close at all?
Is it Paul or Kasich?

Actually, I've been touting Jeb Bush for the job since back in 2010 and believed he would have won the nomination and the Presidency had he run in the primaries against Romney and company back then. He wasn't ready. I still believe he'll eventually be the nominee because the Republican establishment still wants him as the nominee. He's the most competent and experienced in the field, his social conservative credentials are unassailable even though he doesn't wear them on his sleeve and doesn't like to bring them into the public policy domain, and he's got the ability and organization to tough out the early ups and downs and stick around for the important primaries in the big States and big events. Once the circus leaves town, he'll look damn good. He'll be a terrific President.
Paul doesn't interest me at all and Kasich is pretty good but not top of the ticket good. I expect a Bush/Kasich ticket and it will be formidable against anything Clinton can come up with.
You've pretty well expressed my views on the rest of the Republican field.
Nice. I wasn't too far off.
Bush is one of the least scary for sure. My only fear about him is if some of the same forces that controlled his brother might also control him.
It is his brother than took me from a solid Republican with eyes closed, to a Republican hating, Left leaning, Independent.

It's nothing new.
The Kennedy's were all rich.
FDR was rich too.
