I always here that Reagan couldn't be elected in today's GOP, but what about Bush? No, Bush isn't and can't jump into the 2016 race. However, in looking at the worrying state of chaos in BOTH political parties at this current time. I am left wondering if Bush could still be elected President, if such an exception were made. Please spare the Jeb comments as this is only about his brother and if he could actually get elected in this political climate.

Again. I am not asking if Bush will actually get elected. I am asking if Bush is electable today.

Hell no, he didn't get the most votes in 2000.

As a guess, I would say his presidency was so awful that the chances of him getting elected in 2016 would probably be remote.

His foreign policy was horrific (the opposite of his father, IMO) and he left the economy and the deficit in horrible shape.

He was a truly terrible President...though I do not think he meant badly. He was just incompetent. He was clearly not remotely equipped for the office and simply got there due to his Dad.

Btw, once again, I am neither rep nor dem.

Probably not, though he could be spun as more extreme than Jeb, but still probably not.

I read the question as presuming he had NOT been President before. As in this would be his first attempt.

The GOP thought Bush was just right and McCain too much of an outsider (and liberal). In 2016, W was considered too liberal, yet Democrats couldn't handle the sight of him today.

To exaggerate both ways, the current state of the two parties is such that they sashay in the direction of one of these caricatures.

after the mess in Iraq, I don't think so.

I think Obama could be reelected, though, were it not for term limits. If Trump gets the nod, then for sure he could be reelected.
