A million people a year come into the US legally each year. We naturalize over 650,000 to almost 780,000 immigrants a year and we have at least 12.6 million green card holders.

So how many people should we allow to legally immigrate in the US each year?

half a million
1 million
2 million
no limits on how many people come into the country each year
A limit based on how low or high our unemployment and labor participation rates are
other

I think our how many people we allow into this country legally should be based on our unemployment and labor participation. Our immigration policies should never be used to screw and undermine the wages of American workers.

I voted other, because it is entirely dependent on the immigrants we let in.

For instance, are we talking about drug runners from mexico? Those immigrants should be limited to 0 per year. Are we talking about educated people, who are likely going to start their own business? That number should be completely unlimited.

-20,000,000 starting on the first day of the Trump administration.

no limits ever

it's sad that your opinion, far from being fringe, is actually held by nearly half of Americans. how the media managed to convince you poor souls to bleat for your own destruction is beyond me.

I'm good with 1M a year.

That's where we're at now, and we've hovered around that level for awhile.

I would crack down drastically on illegal immigration, however. As in virtually 'zero-tolerance'!

other - zero

As a nation I see no convincing argument to let any in.

Until we get our economic and employment problems under control the number should be as low as possible.

I think Western nations, like Europe, USA, Canada, etc, should have a free migration policy.
We're largely culturally compatible.

I'd like to say the same for India and China as well, but with the sheer population of each of those countries, it wouldn't work well.
Other nations, would depend on how easy it is for their residents to adopt a lot of our lifestyles.

Just an idea, though.

somewhere around a million, maybe a bit more annually

those legal immigrants are hungry for our way of life

they spend enormous amounts of money to live our dreams

a lot of them come here with plans to open businesses, and employ people, and build their wealth

i say bravo....exactly what we want.....

legal immigration keeps our melting pot going....

they bring their culture, and meld it with ours....

most like my wife, spend years learning the language, the laws, and dreaming of becoming citizens

now she employs over 160 people, and with her brother owns a fairly substantial business in the DC area

that is what we should all want.....

In theory, I agree with you, but until we get the chaotic mess with millions of illegal aliens already here under control and under new, mandatory policies, we should not allow any more immigration at all. It's so bad now that in California, for instance, illegal aliens are issued driver's licenses -- AND -- in California now, thanks to their socialist "Governor Moonbeam", a California driver's license is all you need in order to vote there! Oh, you're supposed to be a citizen, of course, but in a hyperliberal pile of **** like California has become, who's bothering to determine who the citizens are...? No more immigrants period

Anything short of unlimited immigration and completely open borders is unacceptable.

Individual consideration based on need in specific industries, academic organizations, etc.

There's another category for political asylum, etc...to me that's a different topic and I dont know the legal criteria and considerations for that.

Hand-picked, period.

Why would you want that? All that would do is increase the amount of poor in this country. That means a bigger strain on public education, less welfare, less food stamps, and less other tax payer funded services. It also means depressed wages seeing how the labor pool would be flooded and that labor pool wouldn't be just flooded with low skill workers. There would be tech workers and other really skilled and educated people flooding into the country thus depressing the wages of people who work those jobs.

This is perfectly reasonable.
no limits ever
This most certainly is not.

A sovereign nation that does not control it's borders isn't really a sovereign nation anymore.
So you'd be supporting the destruction of the nation then.
Mmmmkay.

I'm fine with all of that. Too much welfare to begin with. More poor people immigrating means lower labor costs which is fine with me.

What about your taxes? Poor people tend to take in more public services than they pay for in taxes. You live in California.Which is practically a sanctuary state. That means your elected officials openly metaphorically suck the testicles and lick the assholes of illegals, their family members who are legal and those who aid them for cheap votes. You don't think that those same people are not going to raise your taxes in order to pay for all those illegals? If we had a open border policy we would have way more than 11 to 20 million illegals in this country. The democrats at the CNN debate seemed very eager to make you pay for the healthcare of illegals.

WIthout ever REALLY being able to forecast job growth, I would tie legal immigration levels to total overall job growth of the previous year. You could make exceptions for extremely high skilled technical fields.
