You're making the argument that's OK to inconvenience the vast majority of women who are uncomfortable with a man being in the women's restroom in order to make a vast minority feel comfortable.

I reject that argument.

Most women wouldn't be uncomfortable for more than thirty seconds.

You forget. We lay on a table with no clothes on, put our knees up, spread our legs and allow men with mining hats on to stick things into our vagina.

Ugh...just imagine the toilets in restrooms where men had to use them to pee. IMO many wouldnt bother lifting the seat.

You don't need to lift the seat to pee into the toilet.

And if you have both? Plus who is going to enforce this?

If you are one of the very small portion of the world that has both (currently has both; not had one and now has another) then your choice.

Dont police enforce this? I am honestly asking because I don't know. But I am pretty confident that if my wife or daughter were to go into a public restroom and a grown man were in there and they called the police, the police would rectify the situation.

Why stigmatize some people? Restrooms don't need urinals. Men can use stalls just exactly like women. If people are going to make such a bug deal about it, then restrooms should be unisex.

Urinals take up less space and so a given bathroom can simultaneously accommodate more people.

Im not as sure as you about that. Most women I know would not be comfortable with a man following them into the bathroom.

The fact here is there are a lot of disgusting men in the world. ALOT. There are a lot of perverted men in the world. A sad truth, but a truth. Currently most stalls are far from private away from someone who wants to look. This would not benefit anyone. It's a bathroom. You are going in there to release waste or possibly wash up in the sink. Something along those lines. For most people, they are not going in with disturbing intentions. But you start telling men they can come and go in women's restrooms whenever they please with absolutely no consequence and that is going to change. You will have men following women in there with the expectation of catching a glimpse and then growing into worse behavior.

I know you say you wouldn't be uncomfortable for more than 30 seconds, but if you had a man checking you out, staring at you in a public place that alone makes many women uncomfortable. Now if you get up to go the restroom and he follows it is going to make most people even more uncomfortable and even defensive. And to what benefit are we creating these situations?

Those a medical professional. I doubt y'all would do that for strangers in a bathroom. Heheh

There are times I leave an elevator when a man comes in it . . . More commonly, that I suddenly change my mind or forget something and don't go INTO an elevator with one man or several are already in it. Spidey senses.

You may be right. Might depend where I was.

People in politics: I have an opinion on how something should be done! I think everyone should do _____ and **** everyone that doesn't agree.

Really, we are talking about changing how people view restrooms because of a tiny group of people. Can we talk of something dumber to force on people? Probably not.

The police in many places wouldn't care unless the person was causing a problem doing something harmful, illegal.

Depends if there's a baby popping out Ghandi could be looking so long as he's helping.

In reality you can't see much at all while a woman's sitting there peeing in a public restroom. I know because military requires observing the stream enter from the body to the bottle. I've been on both sides.

If you feel stigmatized because of restrooms, then seriously, WTF. There is just no excuse for that.

And are extremely inconvenient when you're on watch at 3 am with no one answering the berthing phone and no one available to relieve you and you really have to go. It can be done by a woman, but it's difficult.

Following them in or simply going in after? There is a difference.

Yes. The women have to sort of squat over the toilet in order for the observer to see the flow. I did it this weekend in fact.

So they are seriously that paranoid? Privacy much? lol

The difference between waiting a second and just going in?

I feel there should be bathrooms for those who aren't bothered by mixing the genders up, and bathrooms for those that are.

You don't feh privacy in the military. Open bay showers in bootcamp and you don't choose who does your PAP. And I remember a room of hole in the floor toilets in bootcamp doing your first urinalysis.

Sounds terrible. Then again, everything about the military sounds terrible, so..

Not to someone who isn't sure. If a man follows a woman in to a restroom, either in reality or even just in the woman's mind it is creating an uncomfortable and potentially dangerous situation. \

I would fully support unisex bathrooms or the like if there weren't so many perverts out there. But I would have a real problem with a 50 year guy following my 6 year old daughter into the bathroom. Right now I am fine standing outside while she goes to the bathroom. Suddenly I wouldn't be. Same with my wife. If we are out to dinner and she has to go to the bathroom, I don't currently wonder if some pervert is peeping through the cracks in the stall trying to see her business. Dont think she currently does either. I dont want that to change. I dont want urination to be nervous experience. I dont necessarily have a problem with a tranny or post op transgender or what not wanting to use the bathroom. Chances are they don't care about the women in there peeing, but you can't draw the line. You let it men who are in there for a legit purpose and the pervs wont be far behind to catch the show.

The same could be said though for a woman "following" a woman into the bathroom, or even a woman of a certain race or appearance.

Why not just take your 6 year old into the bathroom with you? There are stalls in the men's rooms. And you could always scope it out first to ensure that no one is at the urinals if you are that worried.

I can imagine. I have several stories about trying to relieve myself while flying cramped, autopilot-less aircraft. Makes for interesting personal acrobatics.

The boon to women with urinals in a unisex bathroom is that it frees up stalls that men would otherwise be using.

So this has been coming up lately, so lets see how people feel about it really. Which restroom should a person legally use when it comes to their sex/gender?

Should they use the restroom matching their DNA, their legal sex, their gender identity, whichever they feel, their appearance?

It should also be important to ask how that should be enforced. Should we send people to jail for using the wrong restroom? Should there be exceptions? Where is the line drawn? And should there be age limits? How about disability considerations? These are all just questions for discussion. Again, the main question is which restroom should people use?
Other: For everyone who can act like an adult, who uses which restroom shouldn't matter. Those who cannot act like an adult are welcome to use their personal restroom at home :)

Or you could let her use the women's rest room as I used to. I'd make sure the room empty first, get her situated and then wait for her to finish. I don't recall any woman coming along during the time she was in there complaining about it.
