Contact police.

Re: If there was a lost child in the mall who had no supervision and could not findpa

Take the kid to mall security and make sure the parents showed up.

Is this supposed to be a trick question or something? What makes you think someone wouldn't help the kid?

Since I asked people this question before and one of them said I was crazy for wanting to help a random person I dont know, since its stupid, its not my problem and if its not your problem, you are not obligated to help so why bother? I thought they were a huge dick for this, but they just thought I was a maniac.

A ton of social experiments on this very subject can be found on youtube

Take them with me to mall security to report that they've lost their parents.

Shoulda made it multiple choice. I'd help the kid look for the parents and have the mall cops help.

There is a poll

I wouldn't want to spend much time with a person who found it odd to help a lost child. The first common sense place a "caring" parent would check to find a missing child is with mall security.

WTF is with the guy with the headphones who shoved her?!

Wow. The two guys at the end were great, but a lot of this was really depressing.

what if the child resisted ?

Find a store clerk or someone in an open booth nearby to contact security and stay near the child till they show up.

Yes, I know. That's why I said that you should have made it multiple choice. If you look when you make a poll you can give the option to make it to where people can make multiple choices.

I'd observe for a little while to see if the parent's are nearby and have the situation in hand.

If they did not show up and the child appeared to need help I would go to the nearest kiosk/store to tell the clerk what's up and ask they call security.

If there was another store person available I'd ask them to accompany me to the child and either get it to accompany us to the store entrance so it could be seen by passing parents while we wait, or stand with the child until security showed up.

NOTE: In an earlier era, like the 60's or 70's I'd simply try to help the kid find their parents. NOT TODAY. To much risk of the act being misunderstood.

Did not pick a choice from the poll since it did not include "Other."

I hope none of them are friends that you have to count on.

One of the very few things that we apparently agree on. Particularly the depressing part. So many selfish assholes in this world. :(

You stay there with the kid until the parent shows up. I'm talking about a 4 or 5 year old here. If the kid is 15 it isn't an issue.

I'm saying you're in a crowd of witnesses and now the kid is yelling "get away from me mr stranger man."

not a good situation to be in this day and age, I would bet. nobody even knows the phrase "good samaritan" anymore.

Call the police. It has become too dangerous in today's society to talk to a strange kid as an adult.

If the kid starts hollering you stay there anyway. Hell, that would probably get the parents to show up quicker.

Depending on the age of the child, this is the option I would take. Some young kids are remarkably streetwise though, few years ago with my kids I bumped into a 6 yr old on his bike in the park by himself. that morning he'd been on the other side of town attending a local football match in a crowded stadium by himself.

Its funny that a couple of strangers spotted a pedophile, even though they had no idea who the kid is either. Its good they noticed. Otherwise that experiment could have turned into a missing person case.

Rather scary don't you think for a 6 year old to be so unsupervised? What the heck is wrong with some parents. A 6 year old shouldn't be so "streetwise". I have this kid in my neighborhood who is all but 4 that rides one of those big wheels. You know those low riding three wheelers? Anyway, I find him out in the street all the time on that thing weaving in between parked cars or driving right down the middle of the street blocks away from where he lives. Whoever is watching him has their head up their butt. I am constantly telling the kid to get out of the street. I had a heart to heart talk with him how dangerous it was and to stay on the sidewalk. Didn't do any good. He has an older brother who was over to the house selling some stuff for school. I talked to him about it and he promised me he would talk to his brother. Haven't seen the kid in the street since. Hope it worked.

Re: If there was a lost child in the mall who had no supervision and could not findpa

I would contact the mall security.

Because if something goes wrong you could be sued if you intervene.

On the other hand, some states in America have good Samaritan laws, which penalize you if you don't.
