....or, they just don't want to. My wife, for example, is a naturally modest person, and this was a problem for her. For others, such as Muslim women, it can be part of their religion. We loved traveling in Japan (where we were living) when our youngest was an infant because they had this.

For the women who would rather throw a blanket over themselves and sit out in public? I don't see anyone saying they should be banned from doing so. Why are you being anti-choice here?

Airports should. And it shouldn't be mandated. But they still should. It's one of those "smart customer service" things.

For six weeks though, hormones are nutty and not relating to real life, so whenever I started leaking, I'd grab up the baby and nurse, just take advantage of it while I could. So I didn't even care if anyone saw, I did use a blanket over the shoulder, but I sat down wherever was handly, stuck the baby under my shirt, and blanky over my shoulder, and dared anyone to screw with me. No one actually ever did. However I did have a "friend," who upon finding out I was breastfeeding, banned me from her house because breastfeeding wasn't, and I quote, "natural." She was the wife of a close colleague of my husbands, we'd gotten along right up until then. Never spoke to her again, just can't deal with that level of stupid.
I'm sorry the surgery interrupted your ability to breast feed. Obviously compared to the alternative, it's a small thing, but still. So especially in that circumstance, heck yah! Nurse away.

I don't understand the mindset of a woman who objects to breastfeeding in her presence. I've known a few who were turned off to nursing in general, but not for others or to that extent. Was she a mother herself? And what the heck? Not "natural"? I have all kinds of thoughts about a woman who would say that. Was she much older than you? Like of your parents' generation? My mother was a bit queasy about breast feeding in the same room with other people (she sucked it up at the airport, lol). Her generation is a bit shut off from that kind of thing since doctors told her when she tried to breast feed that she would "starve that baby" if she didn't bottle feed. (Brings to mind a certain barnyard animal.)

This would be a nice option for them as well.

    Options are good.
I'm on board with that. Some women wouldn't be comfortable nursing in public. Which is also why it should be required.

Couldn't the mom use a breast pump at home prior to traveling, and save the milk in a bottle to be used while traveling? That would handle both feeding the baby, and save her the discomfort of having breasts that need to be emptied. Most trips via plane can be made in five hours or less on a direct flight, and I don't know how many moms travel with a baby every year, but it can't be a large amount. The price of tickets will have to increase for everyone if all airports have to spend the money to provide a special room for breastfeeding moms, but if that is what everyone wants, that's okay with me, too. Will all restaurants and other public places be required to do the same? Hungry babies can be noisy!

A public restroom stall? Ew! Sitting on a toilet without a lid? Or standing? Gah! In an area where people pee and poop and haven't had the chance to sanitize their hands before touching potentially every surface in the stall?

Not all or even some restrooms at the airports have couches or sitting areas separate from the toilet area.

I had a boss who freaked because I locked my office door to express at work. He insisted I use the bathroom. With no counter top on which to set the bottles. I sorted him out on that.

    It is sad.
I would love to have a discussion about abortion in the appropriate forum but FYI this issue has absolutely nothing whatsoever with the subject of abortion so I do not know why you want to derail this thread by your totally off topic post.

And most people who are "offended" by it are the parents of children, not the children itself if you properly explain that the mother is breastfeeding her baby.

That's what California and Illinois did. Pass a law, making it so. Although, I would think their law would include Train-stations too.

But I haven't seen anything on it.

She had two girls but they were older, she was a teen mother for both I think. Otherwise we were within eight years age range, half a generation or so. But again, her kids were born 12 and 15 years before my first. I was mid-twenties.

You seemed to be contemplating why we have issues like this in the US. I was only expounding on said issues.

FWIW I have no problem with women breast feeding. Both my daughters and my Wife have.
