I'm an atheist, and I believe that science and religion can certainly coexist. Not for everyone, but for a lot of religious people certainly.

Religion and science can co-exist, but only if you don't believe in the magical aspects of religion. I was an atheist Buddhist for about one month. More precisely, I subscribed to the psychological translation of Buddhism.

All major religions are for the weak and/or the ignorant and/or the desperate.

All 'God clubs' are a complete and total waste of time.

Can't vote. Religion and science are not mutually exclusive. They are not really supposed to be.

    Atheist.

I cannot understand how anybody who knows anything, almost at all, can read any religious thing and not consider it obvious drivel.

Edit; You can have atheist religions; Communism and Nazism for example. But even here having a skeptical mind gets rid of the drivel.

Of course science and religion can coexist, but first religion has to fulfill a few conditions: a) Religion has to start using methodology to find on ground evidence for its major claims (i.e., starting from existence of "God"), b) should be more open minded and drop their dogmatic approach to knowledge, and c) religion should consider dropping concepts as well as their theories if there is no actual empirical evidence to support their claims.

But even so, religion can co-exist under the conditions stated above, right?

    The Religious/Atheist/Agnostic/Deist/ Theism/Science? and Poll

The biggest problem with this discussion is that it assumes that religion and science are opposites. That science and religion are modes of thinking. They aren't.

Religion is one thing. Science is another. Look at it this way: you can go to a bible study and a science class in the same day. You can go to English class and science class. Or art class and science class. Just because you do one thing NOT using the scientific method...doesn't mean you don't understand scientific method.

I'm religious. I always have been. I got good grades in science too. Even went to the state science fair. Didn't win there (I won't my school and regional fairs), but then again...I didn't do my project on microbiology. I went because I was one of the few who understood people well enough to explain my project and the science behind it. Anyway.

Science is not a belief. It doesn't constitute a mode of thinking, and I cannot think of a single human who actually thinks scientifically and rationally about everything they do. There is a reason we find this character amusing, different, and completely alien:

The Crowd is not the sum of its parts.
