    Yeah it does matter

And sorry, choosing not to have a job is acceptable -there is nothing wrong with being a housewife- but it is a CHOICE.

What does that have to do it? Even as you indicate, maids and babysitters are paid for their labor.

No, it's actually less likely by a pretty good bit. Anyway, how do you prove he had a hand to play in the decision? It's not like she needs him to agree nor is it likely there is anything to prove he agreed to anything.

Don't know what the rate is in NY but 10 bucks/hr seems low for someone other than the neighbors kid. Even so at $10/hr that's $400/wk or more, if you have a long commute, when the kids aren't in school. Almost $21,000 /year

A maid in NY would easily run 100 for a weekly cleaning. Another 5K. What about errands like shopping? laundry? Dealing with school issues - you're gonna lose some vacation days dealing with those. It adds up. Fast.

And when a couple has an unwritten, good faith contract that both adhere to until there is a divorce? One works outside the home, one inside. Is that unwritten contract meaningless? To you perhaps. And since it isnt enforceable under the law, the law created alimony.

Yes we are responsible for our choices and if the husband agreed with that decision that the wife stay home and rear the kids he has a responsibility to support her. If the marriage fails he has a responsibility to make her as whole as he can.

It's completely unobvious to me. As I said it was a decision my wife and I jointly made. Maybe we're different that way but I hardly think so.

Plenty of families handle all of those concerns after work or on the weekends. It's not like the house is going to get all that dirty when no one is there all day or the laundry takes ten hours to wash.

How would she prove that you agreed to her staying at home?

You ever have kids? I'm just asking cause most parents would probably tell you that that statement does not reflect reality especially before the kids reach school age.
