If you see how slaves around the world have been treated historically, and keep in mind that slaves could not be imported into the country (eventually) its correct.
It simply boggles the mind that black people today don't feel at home in the Republican party.

So did you feel condescended to when Bush spoke with a fake Texas accent?

Ive read about the subject, not just slavery in the US but elsewhere. You should try it some time.

And nowhere in the FACTS I stated was politics mentioned.

However since you mention it-the GOP was the anti-slavery party that freed the slaves.

That's a good point.* You could also tell the 83% of black people who didn't vote for Romney that the South was very good to their slaves. I know that would win me over.

*Just kidding, that was a terrible point.

Look at it this way: let's say an asteroid hits the earth today, destroying 95% of life on the planet and all of civilization. However, there are a few human survivors and they go on to procreate. Would humans have been better off if the asteroid had never hit the earth? Hmmm, let me think about that for a secon--YES!!
Not the same. Without slavery and the slave trade...America would not be what it is now. We would not be as strong had we not experienced that awfulness.

Actually, shameless lefties like this hair-plugged freak seem intent on terrifying blacks-gotta keep them on the vote plantation.

    You must be so proud.

Really? Are you actually defending slavery here? Because my OP called slavery immoral, and "dictating morality" in this case would be banning it.
Social democrat is no longer an accurate description of my views.

    That's a long stretch.

Would we as a country be better off if we had never had slaves? Unfortunately the answer is no. Without slavery and the labor that came with it, it is very unlikely that the United States would have ever been formed. The colonies would not have become strong enough to fight England, and there wouldn't have been much for England to tax if not for slavery, which would have meant no declaration of independence. The early colonies were failing, and early colonists were lazy. They would have died if not for slaves doing everything for them and giving them a means to produce product enough to turn a profit and generate an economy for themselves. Once it was realized how little gold was left to plunder, Europeans would have left or died off and the Native Americans would have repopulated the continent over time. That is most likely anyhow. Small chance our country might have survived and been formed without slavery, but it is a small chance.
That's an interesting viewpoint, and certainly worthy of consideration.
