Not what the OP was looking for, but with all the advertising & organizing dollars the parties have, they'll probably push-off any issue the citizens have. As we know, "money is speech", and the people as individuals generally don't have as much of it, so the Parties will do most of the talking next year (as usual, but more-so).
As far as your point, I don't disagree they'll both try to keep the truly controversial (read: important) issues under the radar.

You could be right, but I think a lot of candidates on the right have both the personal resume that appeals to Latinos but also the policy resume on the immigration issue that appeals to Latinos. It's another reason I support and hope Jeb Bush will be the next President. There has to come a time when Republicans finally decide that solving the issue is in their best interests because Democrats have zero interest in solving it because they benefit from the division. Most voting Latinos actually support the social and economic agenda of Republicans but they are constantly being marginalized by the fringe on the right that bad mouths them. Guys like Donald Trump who impugn with talk of rapists and murderers as the typical illegal do the Republicans no favours.

I keep waiting for Republicans to smarten up - they finally did it last time around with their choices for the Senate and they won big. Hopefully they do it again in the Presidential primaries and don't shoot themselves in the foot this time.

    Gun control.

I'll keep focusing on my causes (none of which are on that list) and vote for the person who bests represents me economically in 2016.

Just curious, but what are your causes?

Mine aren't on the list, either. My two are civil asset forfeiture and wrongful convictions, but when I made the list I didn't kid myself into believing they would be as big for everybody else as they are to me.

Animal rights - no not giving legal rights to animals, just banning their use in circuses and other places. Animal rescue - more funding, spaying/neutering, etc. Diabetes. Elderly abuse.

SSM is pretty much done and settled. Other than some kvetching by some for a few months, the din will die down and fade away.

So, now what? We can't go about our lives. We have to have some wrong to right. In your estimation, what will the next big issue be?

Economic. I think this Greece stuff is going to hit us a lot harder than some people are expecting.

I understand the hesitation to allow gays to donate blood. There is a distinct difference between simply banning gays from donating blood and banning those infected with AIDS from donating blood however. If a certain race was banned from donating blood due to a higher prevalence of AIDS among that race, there would obviously be an outcry against it, which would be justified because it would be racial discrimination. Additionally, given the potential of blood donations to save lives, it would be wrong to prevent people from donating blood when it has the potential to save lives. I would be fine with a temporary deferral for gays donating blood in order to ensure that the donor is not infected, as is the status quo in many other countries.
Social democrat is no longer an accurate description of my views.
