"I used to roll the dice; see the fear in my enemies' eyes... listen as the crowd would sing, 'now the old king is dead, Long Live the King.'.."
"I believe in a Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the harmony of all that exists, but not in a God who concerns himself with the fate and actions of human beings."
--Albert Einstein, 1929
One of my observations is that once you have given a big, anonymous, intrusive & indifferent government permission to do something, they will stretch that permission to include powers you didn't intend to cede.
Our government already takes whatever it wants, why help it take more?
Our government is not obligated to make us more secure just as the police are not mandated to protect you. When "Push comes to Shove", you're pretty much on your own and the help you may receive from your friends & neighbors.
"I am not among those who fear the people. They and not the rich, are our dependence for continued freedom." -- Thomas Jefferson, 1816 "[F]acts are before ideas." -- Mikhail Bakunin, 1882
Imo, a hate crime is more spontaneous and motivated by hate (and alcohol ) towards a persons color, sex, or identity rather than their politics. Whereas terrorism is usually a pre planned plot that uses fear and violence to try and force change on an entire community or government
Not unless the hate group in question is actually using terror to promote its ideals. People have a right to free speech, and even if we were to restrict even the most hateful organizations, regulation of speech always has the potential to devolve into a slippery slope.
Social democrat is no longer an accurate description of my views.
